Fantastic launch to our #UKIndexofSystemicTrends at @NorthumbriaUni today.
Clips of the contributions and transcripts of the speeches to be up on our website and socials soon. Watch this space!
One striking observation from our UK Index of Systemic Trends is the extent to which our politics is organised around the pursuit of a chimera—the chimera of economic growth.
This is part and parcel of a Westminster political and policy discussion utterly disconnected from real life. Economic policy is predicated on pursuit of a chimera, an example of the wholesale misdirection of political debates into areas that are largely beside the point.
If you are within range of Newcastle then you might want to attend our launch of the UK Index of Systemic Trends, laying out why Britain is Broken by the numbers @HowardRReed@nmcinroy@NatashaJosette and Sally Young. Info from @JoanaRamiroUK@MrBenSellers https://t.co/3tGoNibXCw
The new Index of Systemic Trends from the @DemocracyCollab is essential reading.
The warning lights are flashing across the economy, democracy, environment, and social cohesion.
The trends are clear, but Britain’s political response is not. https://t.co/i1wdLOsG4d
The political class have their “own sectional interests in career advancement and material reward that leads to the enactment and preservation of a very different policy agenda than that which would be supported by a popular majority, if only they were offered an honest choice.”

Think of the median voter in Hartlepool in 1992, the year Peter Mandelson was first elected their MP. In whose interests have the political class governed—ordinary people, or their own? Look at the fate of that voter versus Mandelson himself & his cronies. https://t.co/7p8pcSHRKc
