BBC has role that is mere propaganda for establishment. Here the future King of UK is on a tv sofa saying we need to prove how progress is possible on climate crisis, whilst he and and his elite ilk have a carbon footprint 50 times that of average family

A few thoughts on the announcement that the Jackdaw gas field development will go ahead 🧵

You'll hear claims today arguing we need Jackdaw for various reasons. Primarily some combination of energy security, perhaps cheaper bills and jobs. We should be sceptical of them.

Bus deregulation, land taxation, Choose Independence, local govt reform, John Swinney’s speech, SNP conf vibes, Andy Burnhams interruption, the powerful film Naza & more besides. A day early listen https://t.co/5xLsNaE0Xw

Politicians say 'moral failure' when they seek heightened stakes and show emotion. All very well. But we need detailed action that is just not draconian, and comprehensive not slip shod. And its nearly half way through term of UK Labour government.

@LesleyRiddoch @hmgoodlad1 Yes!

[Lesley Riddoch @LesleyRiddoch]

#SNP26 has backed land tax promoted by Minister @hmgoodlad1. She accepted beefy amendment enforcing tougher fines for non registration. Huge applause for veteran land campaigner Rob Gibson who urged compulsory purchase for landowners who dont register. Yes https://t.co/E9F2wU3giB

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab Twenty years on, Community Wealth Building is no longer an emerging conversation. It is an international movement of ideas and practice that continues to evolve in response to the crises and possibilities of our age.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab Community Wealth Building insists that wealth should circulate, not leak away; that ownership matters; that democracy must extend into the economy; and that places prosper when people have genuine power over their economic destinies.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab What is running through all the above contributions is a belief that economies are not indubitable constructions beyond citizen and democratic influence. They are social constructions and can therefore be reshaped through intentional collective action and activism.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab It demonstrates that local government, anchor institutions, trade unions, community organizations, activists and citizens are not powerless within the eddies and currents of global economic change. We can and will reshape economic futures.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab Community Wealth Building has gained traction precisely because it offers something both visionary and practical. It connects structural critique with grounded action.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab Together, these crises have exposed an economic system that is highly centralized, extractive, and vulnerable. They have also intensified the search for alternatives.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab The timing of this collection is significant for more reasons than a simple anniversary. Over the past 20 years, the world has experienced financial crises, widening inequality, democratic distrust, climate emergency, austerity, pandemic disruption and geopolitical instability.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab Last but not least, in “Community Wealth Building in Amsterdam,” Frans Bieckmann details the work in the Nieuw-West district of Amsterdam, all set against a forbidding backdrop of entrenched neoliberal ideology and the habitual operations of large city bureaucracies.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab In “From Shock Therapy to Community Wealth Building in Eastern Wielkopolska,” Przemysław Piechocki and @mateusz_piotrow give an account of the promising combination of Community Wealth Building and the just transition in the brown coal region of Western Poland.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab In “Community Wealth Building in Northern Ireland: Reflections on the 2022 Independent Advisory Panel Report,” Sarah McKinley recounts the context and content of the report and provides an update on actions since, including a rough scorecard of the report’s 26 recommendations.

[Joe Guinan @joecguinan]

@DemocracyCollab In “The New National Politics of Community Wealth Building: The Case of Ireland” @Sean_Byers84 gives a sharp political-economic appraisal of conditions in Ireland, North and South, that both increase the need for Community Wealth Building and present opportunities and challenges.
