Today the LA County BOS took a significant step towards a vision of democracy based on trust & collaboration.
LA County voters will get to vote in Nov. on Board expansion, an elected CEO, an ethics commission, and periodic charter review (every 10 years).
More reforms are still needed (incl. better process), but this is a positive first step in the right direction.
Today we sent a coalition letter to City Council urging them to establish a Supplemental Civic Assembly to support and augment the Charter Reform Commission's work. An Assembly will bring more voices to the table and provide significant public engagement, deliberation, and trust.
Missed our virtual event "Power Shift: Plans for an Angeleno Assembly" last month? Check out our recording here. Big thanks to all our amazing co-hosts and speakers! https://t.co/kz782u9t8G
Thx @joemmathews for calling for a citizens' assembly to rewrite LA's charter. Angelenos from all walks of life ought to co-create our city's governing document. A commission of political appointees alone will never match the experience & ingenuity of a body of everyday residents
You're invited! Join us on 2/6 at 3PM PT to learn about residents' assemblies and our plans to bring one to the city of Los Angeles by 2026.

Excited to see LA's Chief Legislative Analyst cite the @DemocracyInLA coalition letter and recommend considering citizens' assemblies as a way to increase public engagement in the charter review process. Link to report: https://t.co/5Gp7V9sxPT
