The Conservative Party faces serious problems — is its leader one of them?
My BBC InDepth piece on the mood among Tory MPs, with @ChrisMasonBBC https://t.co/vxTfMwBEEm
One nugget in a maelstrom of stories is that 18mths ago, Mark Jenkinson beat Neil Hudson to get a seat in Cumbria, so the latter had to scramble and only got a seat at the last minute.
This morning Hudson is an MP having won after losing, while Jenkinson has lost after winning.
Guido Fawkes reports Mark Jenkinson, elected Conservative MP for Red Wall seat of Workington in 2019, plans to stand for Tory nomination for the new central Cumbria seat, Penrith & Solway, against the sitting Penrith & The Border MP Neil Hudson. https://t.co/hvHcPMLEN4
Didn’t know what to do with myself before 10 so learnt the BBC election theme

There are *so many* differences between the MRP models we've had over the last day or so. The Green results are a microcosm...
They win 3 new seats with Ipsos, losing the 1 they hold. They do the complete opposite with More In Common. And they win 2 with YouGov (1 gain, 1 hold)
The Brexit Party, the previous name for the Reform UK party, came second in two seats at the 2019 general election:
Barnsley South, where they've selected David White.
And Barnsley North, where they are yet to select a candidate.
@dhothersall Haven't the rules on that been changed? Any sitting MP gets the same payoff whether they decide to run at the next general election or not.
And she had the option to stand as an independent

The government has ordered urgent tests on courts built in the 1990s after dangerous concrete was found at a site in north London.
Govt said earlier this year all courts were safe - turns out it only surveyed those built from 60s to 80s

New: Migrants are being temporarily removed from the Bibby Stockholm barge after traces of Legionella bacteria were found in the water.
The BBC understands that the UKHSA did routine testing before migrants had been moved on.
Zac Goldsmith tells BBC "the PM is wrong" to say he had refused to apologise for comments made about the Privileges Committee, insisting he is "happy to do so" and maintains it was the government's recent record on enviro issues that meant his resignation was "a long time coming"
In a letter to Zac Goldsmith, the PM says he had asked him to "apologise" for comments made about the privileges committee.
But noted that Goldsmith had decided to "take a different course."

@philipjcowley Some double+ words are not like other double+ words. Hamble Valley, Meon Valley, Mole Valley are not the same as South Holland and The Deepings or Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford.
Or even Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey.
