#COP30 must unlock finance, particularly for adaptation and loss and damage, and keep the world within the 1.5 degree Celsius threshold through more ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions and other key initiatives.
#COP30 starts today as the Philippines is still staggering from 2 strong typhoons that slammed the country within a week: Uwan (Fung-wong) has left 2 dead so far, and led to the evacuation of over 1 million, mere days after Tino (Kalmaegi) claimed the lives of over 200 people.
But as climate change is making typhoons and other extreme weather events much more destructive, the Philippines must likewise resound the call for world leaders to take decisive climate action.
Truly happy that Bam, Kiko, Akbayan, ML, ACT Teachers and Kabataan won. Sana makahabol din ang Gabriela. They, together with incumbent Sen. Riza, will take the cudgels for the progressive and democratic forces in the next Congress. Ang daming laban nilang haharapin.

“Yung aking pamangkin, hindi nga nadala sa korte… Mapalad ang ating pangulo dahil mabibigyan siya ng pagkakataon na ipagtanggol ang kaniyang sarili.”
Randy Delos Santos, uncle of slain teenager Kian Delos Santos, criticized the irony of former President Rodrigo Duterte receiving due process—a right denied to Kian and thousands of others killed in the controversial war on drugs. @News5PH@onenewsph
Today is for my 16-year-old neighbor Kevin Reantaso and the 30,000 other victims of Duterte’s “war on drugs”. For the families they have left behind, and the lawyers and other advocates who supported them.
A toast to the human rights lawyers, witnesses, and activists who ensured the butcher faces justice. We've arrested presidents before—the real challenge is ensuring they never return. The fight isn’t over.

A historic deal to shift $41 billion per year out of fossil fuels to clean energy could be agreed tomorrow IF Korea stops blocking. @President_KR, @mofa_kr, Korea must join with other countries and agree on an OECD deal to #StopFundingFossils: https://t.co/Dd6vj167xX
What we are seeing in South Korea right now is not just a moving example of democracy but also an important reminder of how strong historical education can empower people to not repeat the worst of its history.
HAPPENING NOW: Philippine climate activists mobilize in front of the Loss and Damage fund board meeting in Manila calling for #TrillionsNotBillions of $$$ to be delivered, and for a democratically-operated fund. #FillTheFund#PayUp
🌞"'Trump can't get out of the solar revolution': For their demand to stop the expansion of the LNG infrastructure immediately and worldwide, the "Parliamentarians for a Fossil-Free Future" are increasingly popular, at least among deputies. There are also optimistic tones on the Trump problem."

I joined over 130 lawmakers from across the globe to call on world leaders, UN-level negotiators, and fellow legislators to reject new fossil fuel export infrastructure worldwide—it causes energy bills to rise, it’s unnecessary, and it’s deadly for our health and climate.
