Don’t get me wrong- the nomination of Judge KBJ is a historic moment. But why are we normalizing a Black woman being verbally & emotionally abused by a committee for the public to see? Why are we applauding composure during abuse? Why must Black women suffer to make history?

Both Maxwell and O’Ree represented the @NHLBruins in an exhibition game in September 1957. Together, they were the first Black athletes to wear an NHL uniform.

Maxwell’s legacy has inspired many other Black players to pursue their own paths in the game. #HockeyIsForEveryone

87 years ago today, hockey pioneer Stan “Chook” Maxwell was born.

Maxwell blazed a trail as one of the first Black professional hockey players. Competing in the high minor leagues, he was a frequent teammate of Willie O’Ree.
