“So What’cha Want” is from the Beastie Boys’ 1992 album Check Your Head. The track marked an important shift for the group, as they returned to playing their own instruments in the studio rather than relying so heavily on samples. What began as an attempt to build around a soul groove ended up becoming something they recreated themselves, giving the song its raw, funky energy through Ad-Rock’s guitar, MCA’s bass and Mike D’s drums.

It became one of the standout singles of the band’s early-’90s comeback and remains a fan favorite for its chaotic humor, explosive momentum and instantly recognizable video.

Opening Pixies' debut album Surfer Rosa, "Bone Machine" immediately established the strange, abrasive world the band inhabited. Black Francis's surreal lyrics, Kim Deal's backing vocals and Joey Santiago's jagged guitar helped create the quiet-loud dynamics that would influence countless alternative bands in the years that followed. This 1988 performance captures Pixies before that influence had spread far beyond the underground.
