I am tired of the MYTH that lesbians were not persecuted in the Holocaust, that only gay men were.

Lesbians were persecuted in the Holocaust. The difference is that the Nazis were careful not to acknowledge the existence of lesbians, because independent female sexuality directly contradicted the fundamentals of nazi ideals of gender and sexuality.

Below I have linked an video featuring Jewish Lesbian feminist & filmmaker Barbara Hammer as she interviews holocaust scholar Johanna Reutter. They discuss how lesbians were persecuted in the Holocaust, despite how many claim that "the nazis didn't persecute lesbians". That is quite literally nazi propaganda.

Lesbians were arrested and sent to concentration camps using other crimes beside homosexuality, such as being labeled as "asocial" (a catch-all nazi category for multiple different persecuted groups, which is where the inverted black triangle on the Labrys flag comes from, a reclamation of a tool used to harm), or they were labeled as communists, drug-addicts, prostitutes, etc, just so they wouldn't acknowledge lesbianism, just so women wouldn't get any ideas of the mere existence of female homosexuals. AKA: this is the origin of LESBIAN ERASURE. Lesbian erasure is, at its very origins, FASCIST!

Nazi ideology believed that all men were virile, inherently sexual beings, while women were likened to absent-minded holes that were meant to take it and reproduce. The idea that women had their own independent sexual desires–– especially desires independent of MEN–– directly contradicted Nazi ideology regarding human sexuality. It was permitted to acknowledge homosexual men, as long as that acknowledgement entailed the criminalization and discouragement male homosexuality.

The existence of male homosexuality didn't contradict the Nazi ideals on human sexuality. Concurrently, acknowledging the existence of lesbians directly contradicted those ideals. This is why the Nazis were careful not to acknowledge female homosexuality as a crime in the same way they acknowledged male homosexuality as a crime. It showed the cracks within their ideological foundation.
