If HB21-1030 leaves funding for community responder programs like STAR exclusively the in hands of police & safety depts, it defeats the whole purpose of such programs - providing ALTERNATIVES to the police. This is not what our communities worked for. #defundthepolice
@McCluskieforCO@elisabeth Were any of the community advocates who helped make STAR a reality in Denver involved in the stakeholding on this bill? We just heard about it Friday. One would think the folks who brought this innovative, *non-police* model to CO should have been at the table from the start
@McCluskieforCO@elisabeth W/ all due respect, that's hardly a real choice. Most public safety depts are still dominated by LE interests - problem remains. The original CAHOOTS model has funding managed by a *community based* group, @WhiteBirdClinic, not LE or safety. This bill should prioritize that model
DPD is asking us to approve $2.5mil for DPD uniforms for a 3 year contract period. New recruits are allotted $10,800 per recruit for uniform expenses. 🧐 Even school kids have to pay for their own uniforms & supplies--why wouldn't officers pay for theirs? https://t.co/GKnXzGzvwB
If we're going to have #abolition, we are going to have to take more responsibility for ourselves and our communities. Sign up and tune to hear abolitionist leaders @prisonculture@deanspade and @ejeris break down what that can look like ✊🏾

What the @AuroraPD and DA Dave Young are doing with these arrests and trumped up charges of protest organizers is state retaliation for protests against police. Please support their legal costs if you can.
Update: the 3 protest leaders still in Denver cage are members of PSL @pslweb.
We do not need $/donations for bond. Colorado Freedom Fund has it covered.
To support their post-release legal expenses, you can donate directly to PSL’s official fund here: https://t.co/h8C6QNhKs4
Did you know Denver is currently in collective bargaining negotiations with its Police Protective Association?
Bargaining began June 30th and lasts a maximum of 45 days. Negotiations are closed. Any agreement reached must be ratified by @DenCityCouncil.
Today I signed an Executive Order designating Attorney General Phil Weiser to investigate and, if the facts support prosecution, criminally prosecute any individuals whose actions caused the death of Elijah McClain.

#Juneteenth reminder: slavery & involuntary servitude were never abolished in the US. They are still regular practices in the US prison system, which considers all inmates - people who are black, brown, indigenous, & yes, white - as property of the state. #AbolitionIsNotAMetaphor

#SCOTUS rules against Trump administration in challenge to decision to end #DACA program, which allowed noncitizens brought to this country illegally as children to apply for protection from deportation, holding decision was arbitrary and capricious
