@upstatefederlst It's definitely a lot different today in the sheer amount of choice in how media is consumed. When I was young, we had 4 TV channels and VCR's were very expensive still. Less options, a narrower breadth of content to choose from. So I get why stuff can pass kids by today.

@upstatefederlst Yeah, we pretty much did. Plenty of old black and white monster movies would be shown. Ray Harryhausen stuff, War of the Worlds, Them!, Gorgo...all sorts of cool old stuff like that was regularly shown when kids were able to watch. Also old Disney stuff.

@eurogamer Of course loot boxes exist in the tangible world...gambling has been a thing for a LONG time. It's just regulated properly in the real world. Unlike in gaming, where gambling mechanics are foisted on little kids in games rated for all ages, and rich gaming execs see no issue.
