Since financial systems changed, there’s a huge difference between charging a reasonable interest on loans and what would count as usury in biblical times. I don’t want to go too deep here (as it’d ruin my day if I dwelled on this), but in a nutshell, for most of humanity, the buying power of money was relatively stable or even deflationary; meaning that if I loaned you 100 denarii and five years later you gave me back 100 denarii (and the onus of keeping it safe was yours), I could buy the same amount of goods for my money that I could five years ago, potentially more. These days, especially since the world got off the gold standard, money is inflationary (just look at the price of food, petroleum, housing over the past five years). So if I loaned you £100k five years ago, and you now gave me back £100k, I would have made an effective loss since the purchasing power of the money is much lower now. That’s why it’s moral to charge a reasonable interest.

Not quite correct - and I thought if anyone knew this, it would be you, Charles 😀 The Crown Nominations Commission picks two names and forwards those to the Prime Minister, indicating which one they prefer. The Prime Minister submits the preferred name to the monarch. The monarch then, as Supreme Governor of the church of England, appoints that person as the new Archbishop of Canterbury. No, I don’t know how we ended up with this. No, I don’t want to know.
