I love the hidden champions graph..Germany has the most. The people who want to build things are here, and they are good. German mentality fits perfectly in the way of how an engineer needs to think. So Germans are basically born for engineering. If they can remove the regulatory and barriers to scaling, imagine how many of these companies could be come global players
Wondering if Jev could save me tons of Astra tokens when editing videos.
Most of what Astra does in an edit is dumb yes/no stuff like is this take usable and where's the cut, and Jev answers exactly that for $0.042 per million tokens with free output.
Let Jev make the small decisions and only wake up Astra when it actually has to touch the timeline.
Would that work? Has anyone tried it?
Lazy work used to mean too little output.
Now, with AI, it often means too much and more work for everyone else.
@tobi call it "slop grenades."
A "Slop Grenade" is when you let AI produce the work and pass it on without adding any value (including checking it).
Someone else has to wade through it, catch the mistakes, and clean up the mess.
You save time and look productive but someone else pays for it.
If you're learning to code, don't let AI write your code.
I know it's tempting because you can ship a whole app in an afternoon now, but you end up with a bunch of code you have no clue about. This will also lead to less confidence in your own work.
It's like paying someone to do your homework. The work gets done but nothing really sticks to your memory.
AI makes good developers faster and bad developers dependent.
@ForwardEditor Yep same here. Have been editing for 16 years and itβs just crazy to see what Astra is capable of. I feel like it will only get better from here on
@pcshipp Could be a false correlation - it might have been something else than the leaderboard. How long was the average time of the users using the app? Did they use it for weeks/months and than leave after the update?
Sorry, but this is not the usual case. Iβm working a 9 to 5 in Germany and I know a lot of people working and 9 to 5 in big companies in Germany and they all use Codex Claude code whatever given them by the company. If you really want to make sure that you can use American tech like these AI models apply for a job at a company, which is American, but has a base in Germany and then usually thinks we will go good. Also, the salaries are usually much higher than that what you show here
@manoj_ahi To be honest the outbid hype got to me aswell but than I thought the same thing. Somehow the spark of creating value with a real little startup is gone for a lot of people. They just want the money as fast as possible. Which is kinda sad
I made this with GPT-6 Astra and Davinci Resolve MCP
I found the video on the left and thought it would be interesting to give it Astra and ask it to recreate it in Davinci Resolve.
The video on the right is what Astra produced.
You can see that it failed to make it look exactly the same.
But still, I am really impressed by the quality.
Also, I feel like with the right skills it would have created better quality I think.
My YouTube channel just hit 10k subscribers! ππ
Early 2025 I found myself building small tools for Microsoft Power Apps to improve my workflow, because there were small things that made working with Power Apps quite annoying.
After the first tool, somehow a second idea came to mind, than a third, and so on.
Today a lot of these things can be done with AI, but 1,5 years ago the models just weren't good enough yet.
One of these tools was powericons . dev.
With that one I instantly felt like it could be useful for other Power Apps devs out there too.
Around the same time I was reading an e-book by @levelsio about indie hacking. It fascinated me that people out there build startups completely solo. Just them, a laptop, and a coding language they're good at.
So I thought I'd give it a try and bring PowerIcons to other Power Apps devs. My platform for that was Reddit.
I recorded a video explaining what PowerIcons was, uploaded it on YouTube and linked it to the hero of the page.
Then I wrote a few words to explain what PowerIcons does and posted it on Reddit. I remember being quite nervous. Thoughts rushing through my mind: is this even good enough? Would people care, or laugh at what I was doing?
But to my suprise, the response was better than I had ever imagined. Even the community mod wrote that they'd pin the page to the sidebar of the subreddit.
I really felt like I made it. Providing something people can actually use was an awesome feeling. Creating value like that is unmatched.
And with that, my indie hacking and YouTube journey started. The PowerIcons video is still the first video on my channel. But I kept recording.
The next one got a few more views.
And the third one, well, that one really blew my mind. It's at 120k+ views today. In the first days after uploading I got so many messages from the Power Platform community. It was amazing.
Since then I've tried to upload as often as possible, but between building PowerLibs . com and a 9-5 job, it's kind of hard to stay consistent.
That's why I'm curious what I can do now with the help of AI.
I started editing videos when I was around 15, cutting skateboarding clips, then did tons of videography stuff over the last decade. This helped a lot with my YouTube videos.
But scripting, filming and editing just takes a lot of time. Since DaVinci Resolve enabled MCP use, I'm looking forward to teaching those editing skills to AI.
Let's see where this goes.
So if you're thinking of starting a YouTube journey, whatever the topic, do it. You won't regret it.
Or just get out there and create something people can use.
This is soooo cool!!
One prompt, and Astra cut myself out of the screen and replaced the background with an animation.
I also told Astra to put myself to the bottom right and it worked perfectly.
Again, imagine this as a skill adjusted to the style of videos you have and like. This is crazy.
This will 1000x my video production!
Astra can generate Sound Effects in Davinci! π¨
I gave Astra the prompt to go over the animation and add sound effects.
It generated them with python. Which is amazing. And yes, those SFX are not professional or anything close to it. But they are better than nothing. And it was just the first prompt.
Imagine connecting this to a SFX database. Having AI know what sounds good and where to place it.
This could save HOURS of editing.
It always depends on what level of editing you are doing. But for the general person editing videos, this is more than enough!

AI will replace most film editors out there π
I was curious and thought of testing animations with Astra and the Davinci MCP.
I had an old video of mine and a simple animation I made with Claude a few months ago. It was very basic, nothing special.
I told Astra to have a look at it and also at the transcript and make something better.
It made a full 3D animation which honestly looks awesome.
Yes, right now it still looks a bit like slop, since the text in it is typical AI.
But imagine refining the prompting. Or using different skill sets?
After that I gave Astra 2 time stamps and said it should render the video between those stamps. One with the old animation one with the new one.
I went to grab a coffee and came back and it was done.
Than I thought of sharing this on X and the best way to do it is to create a before and after video and thats exactly what i told Astra to do. While i am writing this, its creating that video.
And now you can see it here:
