A USAir commuter pilot was approved for take-off in front of me. Took his time and when he finally decided to take the runway I had to go around. ATC didn’t seem too concerned.

I knew the brother of the engineer for Thiokol that recommended scrubbing the launch based upon the low temperature and known problems with previous launches. Their group was overruled by NASA management due to political considerations. Had nothing to do with risk formulas.
