I like to build things (@HopscotchLabs_, @Foursquare, @StreetFC, @StockadeFC). Husband to @Chelsa, dada x3 ๐ง๐ผ๐ง๐ผ๐ถ๐ผ. I enjoy snowboards, soccer & hot dogs.
Foursquare was acquired last month. The outcome was disappointing. It's taken me a while to write this, but I think I'm finally done grieving it. Here are some thoughts on our final years, an effort to honor the team who helped build & maintain FSQ's legacy, and my attempt to finally get some closure. https://t.co/HgcgI9DWvy
@karrisaarinen Btw, main point with this post was, regardless of ending or cap stack or debt, there is a way for leadership to take ownership. Share the wins and own the losses. Leaders gotta lead. The absence of that was so frustrating to me (because it was so core to early days)
@ClementDelangue Hey thx so much for the kind words. I absolutely love hearing this type of feedback, esp from the folks inspiring the NEXT gen of builders (ahem, you & crew!)
@scottastevenson@mfishbein FWIW I stepped down as CEO as biz was transitioning from consumer biz to enterprise biz. I thought FSQ deserved a CEO who was as passionate about data biz as I was about consumer apps. Hired COO, elevated him to CEO. I stayed on as Exec Chair for 5 years. https://t.co/mZ1l52sJso
@saranormous Just to be clear, never thought it was a dead end. It was doing $100M/year x 3 years! TBH, I didn't wrap my head around the idea that it *could very well go to zero* until end of 2025/early 2026? That said, I do feel like "FSQ ate my career" in some way, but that's hindsight.
