For all those criticizing @theliverdoc , fr his contributions to fighting pseudoscience/ recent skirmish with the great Chess Player Vidit, let me tell u that his life is not easy. Besides his busy medical practice, the great Dr fights pseudoscience, not fr his benefit , but to save precious Indian Lives. That is a noble cause.
There is no Dr more abused in Indian Twitter than @theliverdoc . Yet, he continues to do his good work. Sitting in Tamilnadu, I hv heard testimonials of several ppl saved from alcoholism/ potential painful death, just by following him. He has contributed to improving the general health of Indians by his rational, intelligent tweets replete with immense, life-saving wisdom.
Bringing his family into ur quarrel with him, tarnishing their image is revolting. Nobody else among the current generation of Indian Drs has done more to improve the health of 1.4 billion Indians, as has Dr.Cyriac Abby Philips, the great hepatologist frm Kerala. He hs a certain style of putting things across, which is his wish.
Whenever/wherever Pseudoscience had the potential to destroy human life/good health, this Dr hs appeared on the scene, to explain in simple terms, what is medically good or bad fr the avg Indian. Fr that alone, he shd be awarded the B.C.Roy award fr the best Indian Dr. & don't bring in religion. Not in a single tweet, hs he remotely been critical of ANY religion.
Raise a toast to Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, lovingly called The Liver Doctor. A one-man-army that has saved thousands of lives.
I spoke to @RemaNagarajan of TOI . Just two points
1 The SLA of UK kept on sending notices to Patanjali under Rule 170 which was subjudice though my complaints were under DMR Act 1954 only !
2 The @moayush took a U turn on 01/11/22 , using the subjudice card of Rule 170 !!
VIDEO | Here's what Indian Medical Association (IMA) Representative Dr Babu KV said on contempt case against Patanjali and Baba Ramdev over misleading ads.
"I've been complaining to various regulatory authorities. But they are sitting on the issue. Even after directions from Union Ayush Ministry and Uttarakhand Licensing Authority, they were not following Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, under which, ads of 54 groups of drugs are prohibited, but they were not complying. I welcome the direction of SC."
Spiritual Leader's Surgery Exposes Medical Paradox and Hypocrisy
- Dr Mrinal Saraswathy Das writes.
Jaggi Vasudev's recent brain surgery at Apollo Hospital lays bare a troubling paradox. The hospital's press release, while acknowledging medical intervention, emphasizes his body's natural healing abilities in a way that borders on disingenuous. This elevates a biological truism – the body's inherent capacity for repair – to a supernatural phenomenon unique to Sadhguru.
The human body's ability to heal is a well-documented scientific fact. Every surgery, every recovery from illness, relies on this incredible biological machinery. To suggest otherwise, as the doctor's statement implies, is a disservice to science and a dangerous oversimplification.
This glorification of Sadhguru's "self-healing" is particularly egregious given his well-known history of skepticism towards modern medicine, bordering on outright hostility. He has repeatedly promoted unproven techniques like yoga as cures for serious ailments, potentially misleading millions of followers. This is akin to a firefighter claiming to extinguish a blaze through meditation alone.
The hypocrisy is further amplified by Sadhguru's decision to seek the best available medical care at Apollo Hospital when faced with his own health crisis. Imagine a follower with a similar condition, who, misled by Sadhguru's pronouncements, delays seeking proper medical attention – the consequences can be devastating.
The doctor's statement downplays the critical role of advanced medical procedures in Jaggi Vasudev's recovery. It's akin to praising a patient's immune system for fighting off pneumonia while ignoring the life-saving role of antibiotics. Modern medicine provided the tools necessary for his diagnosis, treatment, and hopefully, a full recovery.
The true lesson here lies not in attributing Sadhguru's recovery to some mystical self-healing power, but in the importance of a discerning public and a medical community that prioritizes evidence-based practices. Blind faith in gurus and a disdain for scientific progress can have serious consequences, especially for those who trust such pronouncements.
Furthermore, the applause Jaggi Vasudev received at a cardiac surgeons' conference for claiming to cure heart disease through yoga exemplifies this problem. It highlights the susceptibility of some medical professionals to charismatic personalities peddling miracle cures. Such endorsements erode public trust in the medical community and can discourage people from seeking proper medical attention, leading to potentially life-threatening situations.
This incident exposes a larger issue: the spread of pseudoscience disguised as alternative medicine. Sadhguru is not alone in promoting such practices. It's crucial for the public to critically evaluate health claims and prioritize scientific evidence over charisma and anecdotal stories.
VIDEO | “My complaint to the Prime Minister’s office was forwarded to the Ministry of AYUSH which forwarded it to the State Licensing Authority of Uttarakhand. They have been sitting on the complaint for the past two years. In today’s intervention by the Supreme Court, they have very clearly said that if the advertisements violate regulations, there should be action,” says RTI petitioner Dr KV Babu.
As IMA Palakkad, we firmly support @theliverdoc, despite his blocked Twitter account. We stress the importance of scientific medicine and open discourse. Together, let's amplify voices for evidence-based healthcare and not silence them. @IMAIndiaOrg#SupportTheLiverDr
Not sure if you knew this, but @drbabukv, an Opthalmologist from Kerala single handedly bought the Ayurveda pharma behemoth Patanjali run by Mr. Ramdev and his associate Mr. Balakrishna to its knees.
Patanjali has been time and again violating advertisements rules and regulations by promoting unscientific, untested and potentially toxic herbal supplements as "cure" for diseases like chronic liver disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Now, over almost 2 years and through a series of painstakingly made RTI based complaints that went knocking on all doors of almost every health regulatory body in India, investigative action against this public health endangering "Patanjali Divya Pharmacy" has been initiated, only because one person sitting in a small corner of the country decided to fight for public health, trying to shield our people from pseudo-nationalistic, pseudoscience selling, science-denying, anti-modern medicine, "chemical" fear mongers who operate under the garb of religion & culture masked as "healthcare."
Kudos to this 👏 🙏
