14 years old and gone because Denver still cannot get a handle on the violence destroying entire families.

Nasir should have been worried about school, friends, music, summer plans. Instead, his family is planning a funeral after what people are describing as crossfire near the Montbello Rec Center.

This is not politics anymore. This is not “just another shooting.” This is a child dead in our city.

Denver needs change. Real change. Not press conferences. Not carefully worded statements. Not another temporary crackdown that disappears in two weeks.

Kids are dying.

Families are breaking.

Communities are exhausted.

A mother should never have to write:
