When Lindsey Graham was here in Ukraine, he would always talk about how important it was not to ease pressure on Russia, to strengthen sanctions and seek a path to peace. In particular, in those capitals that choose to buy Russian oil, provide financial services to Russia, and allow Russian companies linked to Putin and the war to engage in normal business relations in other countries.

Senator Graham never doubted for a second that America has enough strength to stand up to dictators and achieve results if it acts THE RIGHT WAY.

I thank President Trump @POTUS for signing this critically important legislation. I thank all the senators and members of the House of Representatives who supported it. The best way to honor Lindsey’s memory will be to implement the provisions of this law fully and swiftly. And the best reward for everyone helping us put pressure on Russia to end its war will be peace. Peace – and an end to all the problems and challenges this war has brought.

Peace comes through strength. Calm comes through security. And the best guarantee of security is resolve.

As the Freedom Bell tolled four times, I thought of the Ukrainians missing in action and held captive by Russia. Russia’s war has left countless Ukrainian families waiting for answers, hoping their loved ones will come back home.

From the very first day of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the Kremlin has made its goals clear: to destroy Ukraine as a nation and erase our culture, identity, and historical heritage. The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is an integral part of this heritage.

Despite Russia’s daily terror, Ukraine continues to stand. Our culture is not disappearing – on the contrary, it is gaining new momentum thanks to the resilience and creativity of Ukrainians.

That is why presenting this exhibition dedicated to the 975th anniversary of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in the United States is not only a tribute to our history, but also a testament to the fact that Ukrainian cultural heritage is alive, continues to evolve, and will be passed on to future generations.

It is especially important that after Washington, the exhibition will travel to other cities across the United States.

The exhibition “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra: 975 Years of History – 100 Years of Responsible Preservation” was unveiled in Washington, DC, during a reception marking the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, hosted by the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA in cooperation with Ukraine House.

Through photographs spanning from the late 18th to the early 21st century, the exhibition tells the story of the Lavra, its architecture, and the generations of people who lived, worked, prayed, and visited there.

The exhibition was prepared by the National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” in partnership with the @MFA_Ukraine, the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA, @UKRinUN, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, and the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation.

Founded in 1051, the Lavra has witnessed centuries of Ukrainian history. In 2026, Ukraine marks the 100th anniversary of the National Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra,” established in 1926 to protect this unique heritage.

Today, the Lavra faces a new threat. Several buildings of the complex have been damaged by Russian attacks on Kyiv during the full-scale war.

The exhibition will travel to other cities across the United States.

For the third time in just one week, Russia attacked an area close to Ukraine’s border crossing with Poland in Yahodyn.

Moscow continues escalation. We must ensure that its cost for Russia rises every day. Every new act of Russian terror should leave Russia with fewer means to continue its aggression and Ukraine with more means to defend itself.

The responses Moscow needs to see in practice are stronger air defence for Ukraine, tougher sanctions, and greater pressure on Russia’s war machine.

Russia must learn that escalation does not produce hesitation. It produces consequences.

It is symbolic that the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act on the night of yet another Russian attack on Ukraine with ballistic and other missiles and drones. Once again, civilian infrastructure was targeted, with damage reported in eight regions. The Russians struck energy infrastructure in the Sumy and Odesa regions. In Kyiv and Odesa, ordinary residential buildings were hit. More than 10 people were injured, including children. Some were hospitalized. There were fires in many communities.

The Lindsey Graham bill, along with other strong sanctions steps by our partners against the source of this war – against Russia – is an extremely powerful tool that can stop this terrorist war and bring Russia to the point where it has to make peace. Sanctions must be strong so that all efforts for peace – including our joint diplomatic efforts with the United States, Europe, and our other friends – can succeed. I thank the members of the House of Representatives, senators, and leaders of the U.S. Congress for supporting this legislation. Russia needs to end this war.
