There’s something strangely familiar about Cody Gakpo’s Liverpool story now.

Jordan Henderson was once almost used as a swap deal to sign Dempsey from Fulham when Fulham demanded a fee of £7m and Liverpool didn’t have so wanted to swap players but Henderson Instead refused, he stayed, fought, grew into the shirt, became captain and went on to win EVERYTHING with Liverpool. Legend!

Now look at Gakpo.

Almost sold to an English rival. Trust me he could have pushed for the move and gotten it. Liverpool already made him feel unappreciated by informing him he could be sold when he was playing World Cup for his nation. He was calm through everything, Stayed. Took the disappointment personally. Kept working and now he’s hitting another level. Arguably the most informed Winger in the league now.

Maybe that rejection and under appreciation becomes fuel.
Maybe Gakpo isn’t just trying to succeed at Liverpool maybe he is so in love with the club and wants to become a Liverpool legend.

Henderson showed what can happen when you choose to stay and fight for your place.
