Liam Jacobs ditches DA, aligns with Gayton McKenzie's PA

In a dramatic political shake-up, Liam Jacobs, a former Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament and rising star within the party, has officially joined the Patriotic Alliance (PA).

The surprise move follows a fiery exchange in Parliament earlier this week between Jacobs and PA leader Gayton McKenzie during a portfolio committee session.

Jacobs, once a prominent figure in the DA’s student wing, was seen wearing PA regalia shortly after news of the defection broke. Party sources indicate he had grown disillusioned with the DA’s leadership, claiming he felt “undermined and politically sidelined.”

The PA, part of South Africa’s Government of National Unity, has welcomed Jacobs with open arms. Known for its hardline positions on immigration, the death penalty, and economic reform, the PA is led by the outspoken and populist McKenzie.

Neither the DA nor Jacobs have released formal statements. However, the PA issued a brief note celebrating the addition of what it called “a courageous young leader unafraid to take a stand.”
