While working in our archives, I found an old metal box. Inside was a long-forgotten roll of silent 8mm film marked "The Philippines 1942"

Excited at possibly discovering lost WW II footage, I sent it to specialists for care and digitization.

Yesterday, it came back. On it was:

i think the video explains it pretty well. we do not, however, serve them with sugar on top -- we add it to the yolk before dipping the bread in it. Two tablespoons if you want them sweet, one for the ordinary taste.

Тут выяснилось что мой земляк - житель моего родного города Лабытнанги - который пошел в Украину по контракту воевать, был ранен, попал в плен и был обменян в ноябре. Теперь вот вернулся в Лабытнанги и местные телевизионщики взяли у него интервью.

my grandmother died today. she was 84. she had a kind of ever-presence in my life, although we've never been really close -- but she cared. thanks to everybody who prayed for her when it was most needed -- to their god(s), with their hearts open.
