✍️ My prrsonal interpretation of our deadline day drama is that Chelsea obviously wanted to go into the season with the existing squad if they didn't find a good value-for-money replacement for Enzo.

That explains why we didn't take necessary precautions and even pulled out when Monaco demanded €70m for Camara. We were ready to accept our squad rather than overpay.

I believe we must have checked and understood that Caicedo isn't seriously injured, because if he is, we would have done everything possible to sign someone before deadline.

Also, it's obvious that our number one target is Alex Scott, so the thought process must have been, "Why spend close to Scott's asking price instead of waiting for one season to sign Scott?"

I believe we understood the danger but felt it was manageable with or without replacing Enzo. The good thing is that Alonso is a big part of decision-making, so if he didn't mind, why do I need to bother?

Benefits: This will give us a bit more time to develop Barco and see the level he will reach before the January or summer window. We can always evaluate. Also, Alonso will have time to fully develop his squad and understand the most suitable number 6 profile to add to the squad if we still need to.

The bottom line is, if Chelsea wanted a midfielder at all costs, we would have signed one. There must be a good reason for that. We have to accept it and hope they are right.
