Imagine an experience that matches the worst you have ever had. This turned out to be an unforgettable one. P2P trading was the source of the trauma I faced. Back then, before I received my first payment on Web3, I saw posts flooding the timeline claiming that Binance P2P was zero-fee. Later, my country was banned from using the platform.

My first payment arrived directly into my decentralised wallet. I moved the funds from the wallet to the platform where I needed to make the exchange.

I set up my account and proceeded to make the payment. I noted the exchange rate at ₦1480/$ and was fine with it. I opened my calculator, entered the figures, and checked how much I would be receiving. Feeling happy, I went ahead with the payment. The merchant was quick, as the payment landed in my bank account sooner than I expected.

My happiness vanished immediately when I saw the amount that was received. At first, I thought I had been scammed. I was about to take action against the merchant when I saw “platform fees” in the P2P section.

A fee of 4.5% was used to cover the transaction. It felt like earth opened its mouth and swallow me. It didn't even stopped that. It got worse when I read the merchant’s description, which he clearly stated the charges will be added to the transferred amount.

This experience left me traumatised.

I had to accept the loss.

To this day, I check and recheck to ensure that the platform I am using is genuinely a zero-fee P2P platform.
