Neveah Crain and her mother thought abortion was morally wrong, except in cases of rape or life-threatening illness. They cared less about government bans and more about following their Christian faith.

In October 2023, Neveah, a pregnant Texas 18-year-old died after three ER visits and a 20-hour wait for care. Doctors required two ultrasounds to confirm fetal demise as her condition worsened.

Texas AG Ken Paxton warned doctors that its abortion ban overrides federal guidance and carries penalties of up to 99 years in prison.

Experts consulted by ProPublica said Neveah Crain might have remained pregnant, with the hospital able to support a baby on the edge of viability. If the infection worsened, ending the pregnancy might have been needed to save her.

Because doctors were so afraid to treat Neveah, her sepsis progressed, and she died of organ failure on the day of her baby shower.

“Pregnancy should not be a death sentence. This has to stop. And our best chance to do that is to vote for reproductive freedom,” including by supporting Allred and Kamala Harris against Trump in the 5 November election," said Mini Timmaraju, President and CEO of Reproductive Freedom for All.
