While I was in China, there was a particular area in my hotel that I always used whenever I needed to pack my goods.
Because of the volume of things I buy, packing is not something I can in one small corner. The hotel staff knew this, so they always gave me a dedicated space where I could spread everything out and arrange my goods properly before shipping.
Whenever we were there packing, some Nigerian men hanging around the hotel would stop by to greet me. They were always surprised. Some of them were curious about my business. Others were surprised that a Nigerian woman was staying in that particular hotel.
According to them, it wasn’t the kind of hotel business people usually stayed in. It was the type of place wealthy people came to relax and enjoy themselves. Business travellers usually stayed elsewhere.
I would always hear “Ah ah, you are hardworking o.”
“How do you even do all this?”
One of the men became a regular visitor whenever he saw me packing. Every time, he would stand there watching me work and shaking his head in admiration. At a point even, he joined the guy that does my packing to do the job.
One day he said, “I pray I marry a woman like you ooh. A hardworking woman. A woman that is serious and doing something with her life.”
I laughed.
Then I told him something, “The truth is that many of you will get the kind of woman you are praying for. You will meet women who are resourceful, hardworking, entrepreneurial and ambitious. The problem is not finding them. The problem is what happens after marriage.”
He looked at me trying to understand me.
I continued.
“A lot of women don’t stop shining because they suddenly became lazy. They stop shining because the environment no longer allows them to shine.”
I told him about women I had known over the years, women who were doing well in business. Women who had thriving makeup brands. Women who had successful tailoring shops. Women who were building something meaningful.
Then marriage came, and little by little, everything started disappearing.
Today it is, “My husband said I shouldn’t go out. Tomorrow it is, “My husband doesn’t like me travelling.” Next week it is, “My husband wants me at home.”
Before long, the business that once had so much potential is nowhere to be found.
I went further to tell him that I have two children in Nigeria. My husband has a full time job but here I am thousands of miles away from home.
I spent one whole month in China. Not once did my husband call me to ask where something was.
He woke up early morning to get them ready for school together with the helps. He cooked. He did school runs and still went about his day.
Not once did he call to complain that the house was falling apart. Not once did he make me feel guilty for travelling.
In fact, there were days I was so busy that I didn’t even speak to my family. Yet everything continued to run smoothly. The children were fine. The home was fine.
Life continued normally.
If you marry tomorrow and your wife needs to travel for one month because of her business, can you genuinely support her? Can you take responsibility without resentment? Can you hold things down at home without making her feel like she has committed a crime by pursuing her goals?”
He immediately said yes.
He said he would support her and make sure she had everything she needed to succeed.
I smiled and told him I hoped so.
Because the truth is that many men admire successful, confidence, intelligence and result driven women.
But when it is time to make the sacrifices that allow that woman to remain successful, many disappear.
Everybody wants the fruit.
Very few people are willing to help water the tree.
A woman does not stop being a wife because she has dreams and a husband does not become less of a man because he supports his wife’s dreams.
If you want a woman who is thriving, growing and building something meaningful, then you must also be willing to create room for her to thrive, grow and build.
Marrying a good man who walks his talk in character and deed is not a weak plan.
Emphasis: a good man who walks his talk in character and deed.
BUT, you must be healed to a fair point, to even begin to talk about marriage.
There are several poorly raised boys and girls who grow up to become the worst parents.
In this banking thing, I have always said it clearly. If you are not getting what you deserve at the right time, start planning your exit.
My friend who has spent six years in this bank without moving beyond one grade has just received an offer from another bank yesterday.
Finally she's getting the next level, and would be moved to another level on confirmation.
I'm buzzing, yes because this particular person has always wanted this move.
The role I played in all of these, I can't say it enough.
I'm so happy for her.
Don't be loyal to a company to the detriment of your growth.
Most fintech startups in Nigeria move fast, but they operate very lean.
That structure comes with pressure. A lot of it.
One of the ones I worked with was not different from what many people are experiencing across the space.
Salary was decent, yes. But that was where it stopped. No allowances, no bonuses, nothing extra to match the pace of work.
There was no clear structure. No defined growth path. You could spend a full year grinding, go through appraisal, and nothing changes. No raise, no promotion. At some point you start to ask yourself what exactly you are being assessed for.
You can give a company your best for years and still remain at the same level. Same role, same expectations, same title.
Then when salary reviews come, it is a small adjustment. Maybe 20k or 30k added. After that, you hear statements like “we pay competitive salaries” or “this is industry standard,” so you are expected to feel satisfied.
Meanwhile, the expectations keep rising. You are working late into the night. Deadlines are tight. Meetings come at odd hours. Saturday calls start to look normal. Work begins to take over your personal time without any real balance.
The most frustrating part is the instability in decision making. A decision is made today, by tomorrow it changes. You go back to square one and start all over again like the previous work never happened.
After a while, it becomes a cycle. Pressure, uncertainty, little reward, then employee burnout.
This is the reality in many fintech setups here. The speed is exciting, no doubt.
But the structure behind it still has a long way to go if people are expected to build real careers, not just survive the system.
Nigerians please we need justice for Elozino Joshualia Ogege. My secondary school friend. She wasn’t just a classmate, she was my friend we sat together in school. She was a decent girl. Elo was not wayward.
They killed her Nigerians. They plucked her eyes while she was alive, breast and heart before she died.
She was a brilliant student, a first-class student from 100 level to 300 level at Delta State University Delsu.
She only went to look for a house to rent Nigerians😭
She told a security man working in DELSU, Onoriode (Onos), who had access to the school environment that she was looking for a house, he then told her he would help her get accommodation. That was how he lured her. Delsu claimed they are contract staff from a security company. Guess what? This security man is an Ex-convict.
He did not act alone.
He worked with other Yahoo boys including Desmond and their gang and with the help of a security supervisor identified as Nwosisi Benedict Uche. The mastermind was a Yahoo boy who came from Ghana, and got those Yahoo boys to look for a girl for ritual for him. He had 2 houses already in Abraka. Elo was not their first victim.
They planned it.
They waited for her inside the school environment, campus 3, overpowered her by putting something on her face and took her away.
They drove her out of Abraka into a bush.
According to their own confession, Elozino was crying and begging them to let her go even after they took her eyes alive she was still begging them. 😭
But they did not stop.
They killed her and removed parts of her body for ritual purposes to use for what they call “Yahoo Plus” money rituals.
They took those parts to a native doctor identified as Ojokojo Robinson Obajero, who they believed would perform money rituals for them.
The police tracked her phone and arrested them after the family reported she was missing because they couldn't reach her.
The Delta State Police PRO, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed that the suspects confessed and that the crime started as a missing person case before turning into a murder investigation.
Even the Commissioner of Police at the time, Muhammad Mustafa, confirmed arrests and said they were ritual killers.
One of the masterminds even died while trying to escape arrest.
But since 2018… what has happened? Elon have had no justice since 2018.
The case has been in court. Adjournment after adjournment.
Delay after delay. Years have passed. No clear justice. Are they bringing the judge?
My friend left her house to look for accommodation and never came back.
She trusted the wrong person a security man inside her own school. Delsu refused to show concern for their negligence. How can you employ an Ex-convict? Why would a security company employ an Ex-convict?
Elo is gone we know but we want justice. And till today, it feels like justice is still being delayed.
Nigerians, how long will this continue? How long will young girls keep dying like this? How long will cases like this be forgotten?
Please speak up. Please don’t let this case die. Please people I'm begging y'all to help us speak. They already confessed to doing it. They should have been sentenced to death already. All the people involved.
Help us cry for justice @Hybrid_Ola@_meera__abdul@AdageorgeA@oku_yungx@Austeiin@lilyally98@instablog9ja
This is the news on BBC. It's everywhere on the Internet too

If you’re building here, let’s connect🤗
"If you see me in your DM, just know that your bank account is about to blow."
This does not mean the bank account will explode or disappear. In this context, "blow" means to become massive, burst with money, or experience sudden, massive financial success.
Good luck 🤞🏼🤞🏼
LIES YOU SHOULD NOT TELL YOURSELF
1. WHAT IS MINE WILL ALWAYS FIND ME: Who told you that? Abeg get up and go get it...Fortune favours the Brave!
2. THIS IS WHO I AM, I CANNOT CHANGE: No Sir/Ma, Times are changing , your adaptability to changing Seasons will always put you ahead of others. Did you hear a Wise man when he said- Madness is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
3. I DON’T NEED ANYONE, I CAN MAKE IT ON MY OWN: No matter how disappointed you are with people, you must need someone at some point to help you navigate through life’s hurdles. God Ordained Relationships are answered Prayers.
4. MY CHARACTER DOES NOT MATTER, I CAN MAKE IT REGARDLESS: Some habits are blessing blockers. Be Careful!
5. I AM TIRED MEANS I SHOULD GIVE UP: This Week, you might get exhausted mentally, physically etc. issues might stress and attempt to drain you. It’s okay to be tired....REST and hit the road again...NO GIVE UP MENTALITY here!
6. I AM WHAT I DO : Overtime , you probably may have disappointed yourself with your actions but always remember- YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU DO. Your Identity is who God says You are not what you’ve done.
7. I STILL HAVE TIME: You’ve got no time to waste time. Every time you are lazy, someone is working real hard. Every new day brings you closer to your next birthday- I don’t think you have as much time as you say you have. FACE YOUR FRONT. BE ALL IN with your Purpose and MIND YOUR BUSINESS!!!
Hope this made a little sense...
My older sister was 17 when our mom left.
She dropped out for a year so I wouldn’t have to switch schools. She packed my lunch every day. She lied and told me she wasn’t hungry so I would eat more.
I didn’t understand then.
I do now.
She’s 29. I’m 24.
Last week I paid off the last bit of her student loan without telling her. Just sent the receipt.
She called me crying.
I said, “You carried me when you were still a child. Let me carry you now.”
She still checks if I’ve eaten. I still make sure her bills are covered before mine.
Two kids who had no manual.
Now we’re building a life that doesn’t feel like survival anymore.
