There’s an enormous amount of investment going into drug discovery right now. But most of it just translates into more hypothetical molecules, and the real challenge has always been turning those molecules into medicine that reaches real patients.
A new drug takes ~10 years to get to market, then waits years more before doctors will prescribe it, because they can’t count on the system to get it to their patients. The science races ahead while society doesn’t see the benefit for a generation.
That gap is why we started @forus. I discussed with @chriswbischoff at @generalcatalyst:
"There's so much lag between the science that's continually pushing the envelope on what's possible biologically, and what people are actually benefiting from in the real world."
Our CEO @sahirjaggi joined Chris Bischoff at @generalcatalyst to talk about the problem at the center of Forus: A doctor often knows the right treatment, but it’s so hard to get to the patient that an older, less effective drug becomes the safer choice.
Researchers keep developing better medicines, but treatments don't reach the patients who need them. We’re building the team to close the gap.

Almost 10 years ago I was the patient waiting for treatment. This summer, I get to help build the system that makes the wait shorter. Grateful to Forus for that.
That’s been the biggest lesson this summer: not how to code in a new language or framework, but how to transform someone’s frustration into something I could actually build.
By getting more providers up and running on our platform, we are able to get their patients’ medication and treatment to them sooner.
Working fullstack, I didn’t just get a step-by-step guide on what to build, instead I sat down with our ops team to identify their pain points.
As an intern, I get to direct my own projects and work closely with not only fellow engineers but also our operations and strategy team. I worked specifically with ops to create internal apps that increased their efficiency in managing and onboarding new providers by 75%.
Forus accelerates access to medicine for the people, working to automate every step from prescription to affordable access, ensuring that people start their therapy faster—all for free.
So that’s why Forus was the only company I applied to this summer.
Growing up, I was 1 of 11 cases for my autoimmune disease, there was a constant struggle to get the right medicine to treat me on time. That is the problem Forus tackles.
Nearly one third of Americans never fill the prescriptions that their doctors order. Sahir Jaggi thinks AI can help.

Today we’re introducing Forus and announcing $160M to build the foundation for modern medicine.
Science should be the only limit to medicine. Today it isn’t. Drug discovery is moving faster, but the system that turns it into real-world treatment isn’t.
