A new bill in Congress—the HELP Act—aims to permanently exempt livestock haulers from federal HOS and ELD rules.
Introduced by Rep. William Hurd of Colorado, the Hauling Exemptions for Livestock Protection Act would apply to both loaded and empty trucks transporting animals, including insects and aquatic species. The bill seeks to ease scheduling challenges and improve animal welfare by giving drivers more flexibility.
Supporters say long mandatory rest breaks can put animals at risk and make routes harder to plan. Unlike temporary waivers issued during emergencies, the HELP Act would create a permanent exemption. While still early in the legislative process, the proposal is gaining attention across the trucking and agricultural industries.

Culling decisions: Analyze cattle welfare, enhance the bottom line https://t.co/jCcUm9w1L5.
Whether beef or dairy, could calling them "market cows" instead of "cull cows" help orient our thinking more toward financial opportunity rather than them being merely a discard?
Congratulations to @MariahCrevier on her fantastic MSc thesis defence yesterday! It's been a pleasure to co-advise Mariah with @cow_vet Dr. Jessica Gordon, as we explore pain mitigation strategies for beef cattle, with funding from @BeefFarmersON & @AgInnovationON.
Standing in pens or lots heavily contaminated with #manure softens the #skin and provides high #exposure to the causative bacteria. High temperatures and #humidity will also cause the skin to chap and crack, leaving it susceptible to #bacterial invasion.

It sure does (IMO)! The challenge for ethologists is describing it and the affective state(s) experienced by the calf in the cart, and those watching the show. What is it about bedding?!?
