Meet Derek Rodriguez. As a child, Derek was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that forms in the bodyβs soft tissue.
Now cancer-free for 20 years, he'll cross the stage on Saturday and earn his Ph.D.

This morning, I woke up with a surreal sense of achievement, having defended my dissertation yesterday and realizing that I will soon be graduating with a Ph.D. in Translational Science. I am grateful for the unwavering support of my remarkable mentor, my family and friends. β¨
