The older I get, the less i care how many people know I'm a sentimental fool. And this song always breaks me: https://t.co/CAYoP0KQ0f #tomwaits#stillwaiting
@traceyrburns@BBC6Music Bandcamp for smaller artists although some major artists have released some of their back catalogue on there. Tom Waits has a lot of his albums up there, for example.
@simonmlewis@Dublinmarti@rtenews 2/2 and brought into a new system, then we should not scrap the one thing that is keeping the language present.
Systemic overhaul is needed,as this entire thread shows. I believe Irish is important, and shouldnt be scapegoated as the main barrier to education reform.
@simonmlewis@Dublinmarti@rtenews I don't disagree with you on that. Man is a great success story. What I'm saying is that the current system has brought Irish to a great many who wouldn't otherwise have it(such as myself) and unless a massive amount of dedicated and capable teachers can be found, trained 1/2
@Dublinmarti@simonmlewis@rtenews Looking at the comparative strength and usage statistics of Irish vs Gaidhlig in Scotland, it's easy to see that Scotland would benefit from a similar language protection. I am not familiar with the Welsh case.
@fuzzbizzed@crazyhouseprice Housing crisis aside, the religious ethos of our schools is a much greater barrier to recruitment than the Irish language requirement. Any language can be learned or taught by a specialist. Adhering to a Catholic ethos in over 90 percent of our schools is what's exclusionary.
@TechnoHausFunkr@2010Eire@crazyhouseprice For example here in Valencia the local language is taught in schools, it is divisive, but ultimately beneficial to children. Teachers must have a qualification. It's not a question.
@GavMcDonnell88 @normaburke@rtenews This is the dream. However many of us who love the language don't have the skills to teach it to primary students. Primary teaching is a vocation and having basic Irish is an important factor in keeping the language alive in schools, many student's only access to it
@kermodeandmayo Nobody I've seen has mentioned the Stalinist gangster escaping the gulag in The Way Back. Which is good because it was definitely not his best role
@kermodeandmayo Worth a reminder for Intermission. Like almost all fourteen year olds of my generation, we had to test the brown sauce and tea. I think I was pleasantly surprised
Molt Bona sort a tot el món fent els exàmens de la #JQCV demà! Jo faig nivell elemental 😅 però amb això vaig obrint pas a nous camins de la vida. I per això us deixe aquest cançó animant #parlasemprevalencià#musicaenvalencià#cantaenvalencià https://t.co/i1YlZhWcuT
@zackcahill @Brianmur000 @PantiBliss not sure if she even got in a return jibe about how we´ve all been brought up with knowledge of irish history - something the Brits know and generally care little about, as @PassportIrish proved.
