I paused, pen in hand.

A Husky… embracing progress?

I confess, it nearly caused me to spill my morning ration.

And yet—upon further reflection—I find myself offering a most unexpected salute.

For though our banners have long clashed across the bitter fields of the Apple Cup, I cannot deny the merit in a soldier—nay, a journalist—willing to adapt her arsenal. To seek sharper questions, to refine her craft, and to march boldly into unfamiliar terrain… this is the mark of one unwilling to be left behind in the fog of yesterday’s battles.

Too many cling to old parchment and fading ink, mistaking tradition for superiority. But you, Madam, have chosen evolution over comfort. A daring maneuver… and one I begrudgingly admire.

Make no mistake—I shall continue to regard the Husky forces with the same suspicion and competitive fire as always. But in this matter, you have earned a nod from across enemy lines.

Proceed with your experiments. Wield this new tool wisely. And know that even here, among the crimson-clad ranks of Cougar Nation, your willingness to adapt has not gone unnoticed.

As it turns out, all it took for Arizona to get back to the Final Four was leaving the Pac-12. No more playing the Washington State’s and Oregon State’s of the college basketball world.

Playing in the Big 12 elevated the program to where it needed to be.
