Marine Bryce Lockwood said “a radio operator ran coax cable through a damaged antenna and forced out the distress call.”

The U.S. Sixth Fleet heard it.

The Israelis heard it too.

And the attack stopped.

That Mayday saved them but then LBJ called off the rescue.

Rep. Thomas Massie said survivors were left for 17 hours, while many bled and waited.

USS Liberty: Torpedoed, Sinking, and Denied Escape

Survivor Lloyd Painter said “the torpedo hit the hull and killed 25 American sailors instantly.”

Then, as he tried to move 20 or 30 wounded men to the life rafts, he saw an Isræli torpedo boat — plainly marked with the Star of David — machine-gunning those same rafts.

“The Isrælis machine-gunned the lifeboats. The Isrælis were intent on leaving no survivors.”
