Ronaldo Nazário on Neymar breaking down in tears after returning to the Seleção 981 days later:
🗣️ “When I saw Neymar crying after the final whistle, I felt something deep inside my heart. Those weren't the tears of a footballer who had just played a match. Those were the tears of a man who had spent 981 days fighting to keep his dream alive when the world was beginning to doubt him.”
“People see Neymar's smile, his talent, and the fame that surrounds him. What they don't see are the nights when he was alone with his thoughts, asking himself difficult questions, wondering if his body would ever allow him to feel this moment again.”
“I know exactly what that pain feels like. I know what it's like to sit outside the game you love, watching others live your dream while you're trapped in recovery rooms, hospitals, and endless rehabilitation sessions.”
“For almost three years, Neymar had to watch Brazil from the sidelines. Every goal, every victory, every national anthem must have reminded him of what he was missing. That kind of pain never leaves you.”
“People think footballers are strong because they score goals and lift trophies. Real strength is waking up every day after setbacks, after surgeries, after disappointment, and still finding the courage to believe that better days are coming.”
“When the cameras showed Neymar crying, I didn't see weakness. I saw courage. I saw sacrifice. I saw every painful day of those 981 days pouring out of him in a single moment.”
“There were people who questioned whether he would ever return to this level. There were people who said his best days were gone. There were people who stopped believing. Neymar never stopped believing.”
“What made me emotional was the look on his face. It wasn't the face of a superstar enjoying attention. It was the face of a little Brazilian boy who had fallen in love with football and had finally been given his dream back.”
“The Brazil shirt means something different. You don't just wear it. You carry it. You feel the weight of millions of people every time you put it on. After 981 days away, Neymar got to feel that again.”
“I imagine his family watching. The people who suffered with him. The people who saw the tears nobody else saw. The people who stayed beside him when the stadiums were empty and the headlines disappeared.”
“Football can take everything from you in a second. Your rhythm, your confidence, your happiness. That's why moments like this are so powerful. Because they remind us that dreams can survive even the darkest periods.”
“When Neymar collapsed in tears, it felt like the end of a very long nightmare. Not just for him, but for everyone who loves him, supports him, and knows how much he sacrificed to return.”
“Some goals make history. Some trophies make history. But moments like this touch the soul. Because for 981 days Neymar dreamed of hearing that whistle as a Brazil player again, and tonight that dream finally became reality.”

Your attitude should be, “I’m in it for the long haul. I will not give up. I will not let doubt, people, time, circumstances, bad breaks, talk me out of what God put in my heart.” You have to have a made-up mind.

Don’t let the pressure talk you out of what God put in your heart. Sure, you’re going to feel overwhelmed, intimidated, outnumbered. But you’re right where you’re supposed to be. You’re a giant killer, a history maker, a mighty hero.

Setbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable. As my dad would say, we all get knocked down—but the measure of our character is how quickly we get up.
A defeat does not mean we are defeated. The America of your dreams is calling for you to get back up.
Don’t waste your time trying to win people over who are not a part of your destiny. If someone doesn’t want to be with you, shake the dust off and move on. Accept that they’re not a part of your story. If they can walk away, you have to let them walk.
Everything that you’ve been through is preparing you for where God is taking you. It may not be comfortable. It may not be fair but God is going to use it to position you for the assignment that He’s placed on your life.
On this day 34 years ago I was served with a detention order at Nyayo House and locked up in the notorious basement torture chambers. I am happy to have survived to witness the young GenZ warriors carry on the torch of freedom. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
