Fascinating to see Hippolytus’s baptismal creed which looks similar to what will become the Apostles’ Creed but also a prayer during an ordination service. In the prayer he speaks of Jesus breaking the bonds of the devil and trampling hell under foot.

And of course I flip right to the Descent to see what Stanley Gale wrote. Not a bad summary but the “this was added later” statement isn’t always helpful. It’s true it was added later but so was “communion of the saints…” which we have no problem with. (p. 85) #descensus

Ben Myer’s book is smaller than I expected and it’s interesting to note all he graphical design work. Still it looks well written and to the point.
