@coilingoracle i think it might have been Dr Strange that finally completely sapped my enthusiasm for blockbusters (and thus basically all of current hollywood films). so much stuff feels so lazy these days—lackluster spectacle—but nothing else can do what film does for me in my soul…

@avramargariti @HaileyPiperSays but the real kicker is that they can get away with it bc no one ever takes english grammar classes. the closest they get to teaching you how the language works is by exposure. (though we have “ESL” english-as-a-second language, which you can major in, of course.)

The ppl who invented & enforced the Hays Code either didn't think or didn't care about the mirror effect of cinema: what we see in the movies influences how we live our lives. That means American culture began to try & live the fantasy. 9/
