2009 Michael E Mann: “If global warming is to be limited to a maximum of 2 °C above pre-industrial values, global emissions need to peak between 2015 and 2020 and then decline rapidly”
2024 Michael E Mann: The idea we are already over 1.5C is a dangerous lie!👇

The York Fire in the Providence Mountains is currently at 70,000 acres and 0% containment. Ivanpah, Hart Mine Road, and Walking Box Ranch Roads are CLOSED. Mojave National Preserve is under Fire Restrictions. Visit https://t.co/bgf0VzEmZL for updates as they are available.
Sammy Roth numerous times mentions the plant and animal communities, and ecosystems that may need to be sacrificed to avert a total climate catastrophe… but not once anywhere have I seen any mention of what humans ought to be willing to sacrifice. 💡
Hundreds of thousands of dead fish found on Quintana Beach. Quintana Beach County Park officials provided an update on Facebook, saying Texas Parks and Wildlife confirmed the cause of the dead fish, mostly menhaden, was due to LOW dissolved OXYGEN!

Mining #pitlakes threaten one of #Nevada’s most precious resources: #water. #nvleg is hearing #AB313 today at 4pm. This bill will prevent future pit lakes. We need people to testify in favor. #nomorepitlakes ⬇️
@cashandcarrots@carlsmumm @melmoonside And what exactly will be left for biodiversity? The extinction rate is 1,000 times the background rate. Industry and commerce are killing the planet. I’m not really interested in killing nature to power those things.
@cashandcarrots@carlsmumm @melmoonside And what are we powering btw? Crucial human needs? Nah. Most power goes towards commerce… end purpose wealth accumulation.
@cashandcarrots@carlsmumm @melmoonside Solar will absolutely destroy major portions, potentially millions of acres, and contribute to the extinction of biodiversity... diversity being the key. These are biodiversity hotspots. There's plant and animals that only live here.
Thank you to Chris Clarke for writing about the massive destruction being done by the solar energy industry in the Pahrump Valley, and to @MojaveGreen8, @BasinRange, and @desertapocalyps for fighting for the land.
Solar is #BrightGreenLies.

We've said it before, and we'll say it again: there are no "bad" lands, no "waste" lands. Our deserts remain some of the largest and most intact ecosystems remaining on Earth. The good of the desert may be harder to see at first, but it's definitely there, and in great abundance.
Several outcrops found near Indian Springs, Nevada contain fossils that could be obliterated by nearly 10,000 acres of large-scale solar applications. Mammoth fossils have been found close by. Projects are called Bonanza Solar and Kawich Solar.
As long as the societal imperative is economic growth, there is no solution, and indeed the pursuit of renewables may make things worse. Great 🧵 by Tim Garrett, professor of atmospheric sciences.
