The allure of doing SaaS security in one place instead of 20 different consoles (SaaS provider native ones) is too strong! Having said that CASB is but one subset of SASE security..

@anton_chuvakin Ah! The acronym soup debates :) CASB as was originally defined it back in 2014 incorporated two deployment modes of securing SaaS apps: inline and API based. Most serious CASB players had both. SSPM to me is a natural evolution of inline CASB.

@anton_chuvakin Ah yes! I meant API based CASB! Having said that maybe Standalone SSPM can be a thing - the barrier to entry is really low because everyone has access to the same APIs from the SaaS providers. Differentiators lie in better data analytics, threat detection etc.

This would apply to areas like managed EDR, managed WAF etc where product vendors are already pretty strong with MSS.

Yet, there are very few examples of MSSPs that have actually fulfilled the promise of arriving at a common taxonomy/platform architecture applicable across the entire security stack. Building a profitable business as an MSSP to achieve this vision is tough!
