The proposal includes infrastructure upgrades, modern marketing systems and a dedicated cold storage facility to reduce wastage, extend flower shelf life and improve returns for growers and traders.

Spread across 7.8 acres along nearly 1.5 km of the Hooghly riverfront, the market traces its origins to the historic Nimai Mullick Ghat, built in 1855. Today, it hosts 2,500–4,000 traders every morning, handles around 50 tonnes of fresh flowers daily, and is set to anchor Bengal's push for export-oriented floriculture and higher farmer incomes.
