I guess the idea of using Tilak Varma as an anchor is not really working for India.

Whenever he tries to control the game and play the steady role, it doesn’t look natural to him. We’ve seen the same with Mumbai Indians, when he plays freely, he looks dangerous. But when he slows down to hold the innings, he often struggles to finish the job.

Apart from that one big knock in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, there haven’t been many innings where he truly owned the anchor role.

Tilak is at his best when he attacks, not when he calculates. Maybe India should let him play his natural game instead of forcing him into a traditional anchor role.
