Briefly returning from the dead to let you know I will be back in the UK for good around the end of May, due to sad reasons. Since I will be broke, unemployed and disabled when this happens, any advice appreciated.
I'm calling it. Twitter is dead. Pining for the fjords. Joined the Choir Invisible. It's been glued to it's perch for some time, and glue has finally given up the ghost. RIP Twitter.
@marcuschown I suspect it's more to do with endemic (and in many cases well deserved) trust issues with authority figures of any kind than particular disdain for any one type of scientist. Nobody believes anyone anymore. 'You can't tell us what to do' is the endless refrain.
The government made a secret political decision that it would be too expensive and impractical to ensure that disabled people can safely evacuate from high-rise blocks of flats in emergencies, the high court has concluded.

@marcuschown They really need to change the record. It's legal immigration they want stopped. But that would reveal their bigotry, so they don't dare say it.
@StructuredSucc@HowtoADHD This basically requires dismantling whole, centuries old mechanisms of non-spicy enforced tradition, so if you have bosses who might be amenable, good. If you don't (most wont) then you need to lay down some serious groundwork if you want them to ever question 'the rules'.
@rowhoop@gloswildlife@SarahLargeBlue My dad has often told me the story of how he accidentally killed the last (known) British Large Blue when he worked for the then NCC, later English Nature. Wish I remembered more details!
@philipcball @alomshaha I... don't get it. For a lot of subjects teaching relies on facts, logic, and reasoning based on available sources, things AI is notoriously bad at. This doesn't help anyone.
Is everyone just wilfully misremembering how terrible both Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg were and are at providing useful protections for literally any marginalised group? I don't get it. (She say, on twitter).
One of the things I hate about my brand of #fibro is that the pain scale isn't hugely relevant unless I move. The 'desire-to-rip-my-skin-off' scale of uncomfortableness though? Wowee. Through the roof.
@Nick_Ruskell@TomChivers You know it only tastes weird to a vanishingly small percentage of us, right? Otherwise they wouldn't make it. We're just really loud on the internet. I do wish they would continue to allow choice, though. Here in the Netherlands I can no longer buy sugary Sprite, for example.
@hazr198 @willperrin I'm guessing the reason for not liking overhead powerlines is probably something spurious, already disproven and / or homeopathic in nature. Sigh.
@TomChivers I quite like the idea of a soaringly beautiful museum building, but everything in it is just a series of empty plinths with 'on loan to the British Museum since 1860' placards.
