While growing up, SARS once raided my street and picked up all the young boys playing football outside on a Saturday.

My brother’s friend was among them. He was only 20 years old and had just started learning mechanics.

When his parents went to bail him, they were told he was a cultist and had been transferred to Kirikiri Prison.

A week later, his mum went to see him. They told her he had died due to overcrowding.

Whenever I think about him, my heart breaks. He was innocent.

The Police tends to sweep matters like this under the carpet but evidence was strong enough for them to detain him…TWICE.

Enter a female hostel and go sit on one of the public toilets first before confidently announcing that women can’t get infections from toilets. 😂

Every time this conversation comes up, a lot of male HCPs rush to say, “There’s no such thing as a toilet infection” or “You can’t get a UTI from a toilet seat.”

The problem is that many of you hear women describing a real experience and immediately start looking for ways to dismiss it instead of trying to understand what they’re actually saying.

Women are not claiming that every toilet seat is a magical infection portal. What we’re saying is that poorly maintained public toilets can be unhygienic, can expose people to bacteria and other microorganisms, and can create conditions that increase the risk of infections (which happens often btw). Women’s anatomy also makes us more vulnerable to UTIs than men.

The bigger issue is the pattern. Women say, “This is what happened to my body,” and instead of listening, many (read male) HCPs immediately reach for a textbook to explain why the woman couldn’t possibly be right.

We’ve seen this happen repeatedly across women’s health. For years, women complained about symptoms that weren’t being taken seriously. Women with conditions like PCOS spent years describing their experiences before the medical community fully appreciated many of the metabolic aspects of the condition. Our experience with pain management is another example.

Healthcare works best when clinicians combine scientific evidence with patient experiences. The textbook matters. Research matters. But listening to patients matters too.

Women live in these bodies every day. Maybe stop assuming we’re confused every time we tell you what we’re experiencing.

A woman was in a coma in the hospital, and she was continuously raped until she got pregnant. The hospital found out and carried out investigations and found out a male employee has been raping her all the while she was in coma.

A 3 year old baby was raped by a grown man.

A homeless mad woman on the street was raped by a man.

A lady who was fully covered was raped by a man.

A lady who was sleeping on her bed in her own home was raped and killed.

A daughter was raped by her own father.

I can go on and on…

But once these heartbreaking stories make it to the media, some of you immediately start looking for ways to blame the victim, talking about

“women need to learn how to avoid being abused”

“Maybe she’s this, maybe she’s that”

Are you people crazy?

Instead of teaching men that no matter what, even if they see a woman walking naked, they still have no right to touch or abuse or rape her.

The women in all the scenarios above, how exactly were they supposed to avoid being raped?

Make it make sense.

God I’m in tears in court right now after 7months of fighting for a teenager that was raped and aborted for, they tried to sabotaged this case through the DPP but I fought tooth and nail and made sure I obtained my own certified true copy and pushed ahead with every resources available to me and today judgement was served,the pedophile is going on trial and finally moving from the magistrate court to the high court where he would be formerly jailed for his crimes. I never stopped at the court but followed it up at the DPP and finally yesterday I was given my own copy 😍
