John Underkoffler's 2010 Ted Talk "Pointing to the future of UI" also mentions "spatial interfaces" along with references to Hiroshi Ishii Tangible Media Group (MIT Media Lab). The connection appears to be MIT.

The term spatial computing has various origins but interestingly Simon Greenwold mentioned this in his 2003 thesis entitled "Spatial computing".
