Why do AI-generated websites often still look generic or obviously AI-made?
I’m convinced the bottleneck isn’t model capability.
Given a good reference site and a competent visually aware harness, recent models can already reproduce websites very well.
The real problem is what sits between:
“I want X website” → [ ????? ] → code + assets
That missing layer is specification fidelity.
What you need is a “grill me” design process: interrogate the user’s taste, intent and constraints until the fuzzy idea becomes an explicit specification.
Use ASCII diagrams for layout, copy and flow, then image-gen mockups as decisions solidify. You start low-fidelity because disagreement is cheap; fidelity increases as certainty increases.
References matter even more for aesthetics. Give the model a moodboard, have it extract the common visual language, then turn that into a design system and brand guide.
Generic vibe-coded sites aren’t inevitable. Most tools just skip the design process.
There’s also a visibility bias here: badly vibe-coded sites are obvious; the good ones just look like well-designed sites.

@PrajwalTomar_ It's not just about giving AI a screenshot, quality of the references matters alot. That's why https://t.co/rTIBdjEDkD stores the design tokens, fonts, categories per screenshot/video capture

$99/month ?
We offer the same thing for starting $29. Extract colors, typography, design tokens from any website.
You can save inspiration from any site you encounter or from over 2k+ websites already in the database.
There's also an MCP to feed all this inspiration to your agents
