So why has a similar boycott movement not emerged while the #2026WorldCup is taking place under the shadow of far more serious political controversies?

In recent months, thousands of people have been killed in Iran alone as a result of US and Israeli attacks. We all know what has been happening in Venezuela, Palestine and Lebanon as well.

Everyone will of course have different views on this issue. However, there was one striking reality for many ultras groups: strong criticism of the World Cup and of the United States as the host nation could be associated with criticism of Israel, and there was a concern that this could lead to accusations of “antisemitism” in certain circles.

This situation also prevented some supporter groups, which were unwilling to take a clear stance even on Palestine, from taking an open position against the #2026WorldCup.
