in the sunlight, i fall short
but in the moon’s glow
i can hear my echo

my poor wretched heathcliff
may my ghost forever haunt your heart
the way your living misery
stalked the empty halls of my own empty soul

you have people but
they’re just out of reach
and as the night drags on
loneliness drowns them each

all of the words you’ll never see
marking the angst untouched
all of this ancient history
lost in a single moment of lust

listening to your playlist
in his company, so cruel
another night with him
but it’ll always be you

i will meet you at the brink of sleep
where the edges get fuzzy and warm
lay with me there, escaping the storm
wrapt in dreamy curtains of glee

feeling my nail tearing from its bed
erupted in me a scream i’d never felt
sinews ripped and exposed by tooth
gore that tore into what i’ve dealt
all the trials and tribulations of dread
fell away to what was left, hanging by a thread

can’t deny there’s some wrath
laid between our lines
nowhere to go when there’s nothing left
leave me here with your absence
and abandon the way we sought
nothing left to be stalked

did you invade my dream
or was it me traipsing into yours?
did you see me as i see you
shining beneath that thin disguise
or was i merely a shadow in the back of your mind?
shared reverie, make my torment everlasting
seal it with a kiss, cheat the reaper again

feels better than the real
sighing softly, shrouded
from those we fear

lasting love seems puerile
the ages of life close in
and at the end, so naive
that we thought this spin
could ever cease to be

keep circling ‘round the prey
seeing the fray in the lining
bringing us to this endless splay

when the pain runs out
the numbness sets in
in a state of nowhere
where can we begin

but burned by every trail
no tomorrow and no today
fighting a love grown stale

preening in the dark
