@mguzm083@TA_ED50 Everyone should absolutely have access to education. I fully agree that certain races should not have academic advantages over others. It's very upsetting to know that these factors still affect athletics today. @TA_ED50
@TA_ED50 White athletes often have advantages at Ivy League schools that other athletes of color do not. This can understandably become a challenge to the racial climate of the school. Drastic measures should be taken to ensure an equal playing field for all. #UCR50
@Ayoung091@TA_ED50@Ayoung091 I absolutely believe that athletes should be able to profit off their name and image. They are the ones who worked hard to be where they are, so no one should be able to control them making money off of their own likeness. @TA_ED50
@TA_ED50 There are many different myths that exist about student-athletes in the NCAA. One of these is the belief that winning games is equally important as graduating college. This can be seen by the athletic scholarships awarded and the strict parameters they contain. #UCR50
@aqazeem03@TA_ED50@aqazeem03 The importance of women being included in college athletics should not be undervalued. Diversity and inclusion should absolutely encompass women as well. I completely agree that taking the initiative would lead to more success within the athletic climate. @TA_ED50
@TA_ED50 Implementing Title IX was a huge step forward for women seeking college education. Similarly, collegiate athletics was also fighting discrimination against women. Although we have come a long way, Title IX still remains somewhat limited. #UCR50
@Serena294491052@TA_ED50@Serena294491052 It's disheartening to consider that African American athletes are not always granted the same treatment as other athletes. In these cases, the athletic department should implement intervention strategies to improve the campus racial climate. @TA_ED50
@TA_ED50 Studies have shown that diversity and increased cross-racial interactions can have both educational and psychological benefits for athletes. Ultimately, coaches should take special measures to ensure these interactions are constructive. #UCR50
@mdominguez057@TA_ED50@mdominguez057 It's extremely disappointing to know that professors think less of athletes' academic ability due to the fact they play sports. It's scary to think that their own biases could affect things such as the athletes' final grades, graduation, etc. @TA_ED50
@TA_ED50 Unfortunately, the college athlete experience is said to be extremely isolating. Professors assume you are inept, while fellow non-athlete students cannot seem to understand your situation. Will we ever view student athletes as multifaceted individuals? #UCR50
@jsulbn@TA_ED50 Athletes have many things to balance when in college, including academics and the toll and fatigue the sport takes out on their bodies. I agree that they should be fairly compensated considering everything they put on the line for themselves and the university. @jsulbn@TA_ED50
@TA_ED50 Balancing both academics and college athletics is widely known to be taxing on athletes. A common problem is getting overinvolved in athletics while simultaneously falling behind in academics. Will college staff come together to forge a solution for athletes? #UCR50
@jazminh3rnandez@TA_ED50@jazminh3rnandez I agree that both coaches and the faculty are integral parts in the college athletics programs. The faculty shouldn't be compensated as if they are "the help" while the coaches get treated like kings. @TA_ED50
@TA_ED50 Many college coaches are given extremely lucrative salaries in addition to "incentives" if their team wins. Oftentimes, these incentives can be upwards of tens of thousands of dollars. Are their hearts truly in it, or are they just there for the money? #UCR50
@HungryHoang @hungryhoang Wow, it’s very interesting to consider that the coaches may have ulterior motives behind pushing the athletes to keep their grades up. It makes me wonder if it’s actually sincere concern or just for their own benefit.
@TA_ED50
@TA_ED50 It's very interesting how with many coaches in college athletics, their main priority is winning and the check, rather than the athlete's academic success. #UCR50
