When we talk to people who don’t live in Ukraine, we often hear the same question: “Is it safe to be in this or that city?”
And our answer is always the same: there is no place in Ukraine that can be considered completely safe today.
russia is a terrorist state that attacks Ukrainian towns and cities every day with Shahed drones, missiles, and aerial bombs. An attack can happen anywhere. And behind every strike are human lives, shattered families, and futures cut short.
On October 11, russia killed 16-year-old Vlad Pershyn in the Kharkiv region.
Vlad was simply riding his scooter past a shop in Pisochyn when a Russian missile struck nearby. He was on his way home. He was only 16.
Vlad was someone’s beloved son. A boy his family was waiting to come home.
Three people were killed in the Russian strike on Pisochyn. Dozens were injured, including children. On October 12, the local community declared a day of mourning.
How many more Ukrainian families will have to endure this heartbreak?
May Vlad rest in peace. Our heartfelt condolences to his mother, Olena, his family, and everyone who loved him.

A mother of 2 is preparing to spend the night in the bathroom, setting up a sleeping area according to the 2-wall safety rule.
No family should have to live like this. Yet this is the reality Ukrainians are forced to face as they try to keep themselves and their children safe while russia attacks their cities with drones and missiles.

Some performances stay with you long after the curtain falls. MARIOUPOL is one of them.
Thank you to playwright Philippe Ducros, director Sasha Samar, the outstanding cast, Olena Khmyakova and the entire team at Théâtre Aux Écuries for taking us to Mariupol — to the Donetsk Regional Drama Theatre, where around 1,000 people sought shelter during Russia’s siege of the city in February and March 2022.
On March 16, 2022, Russian forces bombed the theatre. Large letters spelling «ДЕТИ» — “CHILDREN” had been painted outside the building, clearly visible from the air. It was a desperate attempt to protect the civilians sheltering inside. But the warning did not prevent the attack.
The exact number of people killed remains unknown. An investigation by The Associated Press estimated that close to 600 people died in and around the theatre, while some volunteers later estimated the toll at around 800. The full scale of the tragedy may never be established.
During the performance, another question emerged: «Де ти?» — “Where are you?”
Two short phrases. One written in enormous letters to protect children from a bomb. The other a question asked by families desperately searching for children taken from their homes.
Ukraine has documented more than 20,000 cases of children deported or forcibly transferred by Russia. Ukrainian authorities, organizations, and volunteers continue their efforts to locate these children and bring them home.
Through MARIOUPOL, you took us beyond the headlines and statistics. You brought us closer to the people behind them , their fear, their courage, their loss, and their humanity.
Thank you for bringing this story to a Montréal stage. Thank you for giving Ukrainian voices space to be heard and for reminding us why memory matters. We must remember these crimes, demand justice, and never allow the victims to become just another number.
And thank you to everyone who came, listened, felt, and shared this deeply human experience.
Art cannot undo a tragedy. But it can keep the truth alive, challenge indifference, and remind us that justice still matters.
💙💛

💙💛

🚨 BREAKING: A Russian attack on Pryluky, Chernihiv region, killed at least five people and injured 20, according to preliminary reports.
Rescue operations are ongoing, and the death toll may rise.
Today is October 7. Putin’s birthday.
And as a birthday gift to its dictator and terrorist, russia sent missiles into Ukraine.
In Pryluky, a Russian missile struck a residential apartment building. At least 16 people were killed, including 4 children. 55 people were injured, including 7 children. Rescue operations are still continuing.
Among those killed was a little boy, Oleksandr, who was just one year old.
His grandmother, 58-year-old Viktoriia Bondarenko, and his mother, 37-year-old Kateryna Antypenko, were killed too. They lived together on the fifth floor.
A mother. A grandmother. A little boy. Three generations of one family — gone.
While Putin celebrates his birthday, Ukrainian families are burying their children.
And then russia talks about peace.
Please remember the victims of Pryluky. Remember every child killed by russia.
Demand accountability.

Russia launched a cynical attack against Ukraine on October 7, firing around 70 missiles – many of them ballistic – along with Shahed drones. The attacks hit Kyiv and 12 regions, killing at least 19 people and injuring dozens.
In Pryluky, Chernihiv region, a Russian strike destroyed a five-storey residential building, killing 13 people, including three children. At least 43 people were injured, including children.
Nine apartment buildings were damaged in Dnipro and Kremenchuk. Two people were killed and 27 more injured. Two more people were killed in Kyiv and two in Oleksandriia.
Russian ballistic missiles remain one of the biggest threats. Ukraine urgently needs more air defence, including Patriot missiles, to protect lives.
Not long ago, children were running across these fields, playing soccer. These are soccer fields in Dobropillia, Ukraine.
You can still see the white lines, but the fields are now covered with craters and debris after russian attacks.
A soccer field is part of childhood. It is where children meet their friends, learn to play as a team, celebrate a goal and simply enjoy being kids. russia is destroying these places too.
By mid-June 2026, 891 sports infrastructure facilities across Ukraine had been damaged or destroyed as a result of the war, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.
We pray for the day when Ukrainian children can run onto these fields again — with a ball at their feet, not an air-raid siren overhead.
You can help bring that day closer. Don’t stay silent.
Tell the truth about what russia is doing to Ukraine.

Yesterday morning, a Russian drone struck School No. 12 in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district.
Inside the school were 104 children and more than 60 teachers and staff.
They were in the shelter when the drone hit. Children and teachers were sitting underground, waiting for the air raid alert to end, when suddenly there was an explosion, fire, the sound of falling walls and shattered glass.
Thankfully, no one was injured.
But how many times do Ukrainian children have to run to shelters in their own schools?
How many times do teachers have to stop a lesson, gather their students and take them underground because russian drones and missiles are coming?
A school is supposed to be a place where children learn, make friends and think about their future.
And yet, world leaders are still looking for ways to “work with” the people who are destroying Ukrainian cities and attacking places where children study.
We are honestly asking:
How long?
Terrorists do not hide what they are doing.
They send missiles and drones at homes, schools and hospitals.
And Ukrainian children are the ones who are forced to live with it.
The world is failing in its responsibility to protect them.
#DETY #BringKidsHome #ProtectChildren #StandWithUkraine

September came to an end. In Ukraine, it will be forever known as another month of russian terror. Deadly, cruel and completely senseless.
And there’s no waking up to something better when September ends. Only help to make it more manageable:
https://t.co/4Os08VpZpy
Last week, the Save Ukraine team rescued 25 children and teenagers from occupation. This was made possible thanks to the support of our partners within the framework of the President of Ukraine's Bring Kids Back UA initiative. Each of them endured psychological pressure, intimidation, and attempts to erase their identity, but the worst is finally behind them.
Among the rescued:
🔹 18-year-old Milana, who was forced to obtain a Russian passport under the threat of expulsion from school. Later at the university, under the threat of disciplinary action, she and other students were forced to attend meetings with soldiers who openly humiliated the youth. All the while, the young woman lived in constant fear, having repeatedly witnessed armed occupiers snatching young girls off the streets and taking them away to unknown destinations.
🔹 18-year-old Andriy, whose family survived several brutal armed searches. Under the threat of fines, the young man was forced to attend an occupation school, where Russian soldiers taught children how to assemble assault rifles and recruited them for their military academies. As soon as he turned 18, the occupiers handed him a draft notice demanding that he report to the enemy's military recruitment office.
🔹 19-year-old Valeriy, who was blackmailed into attending a Russian school, where he was forced to draw pictures for enemy soldiers. The young man survived several armed searches of his home, and recently, Valeriy received a draft notice demanding that he immediately register for military service.
For these and 22 other children, the occupation is now in the past. Today, they are safe—undergoing rehabilitation at our Hope and Healing Centers, receiving psychological support and assistance with documents so they can start with a clean slate.
Our fight continues, as thousands of Ukrainian children still remain hostages of an enemy system that is trying to weaponize them.
🙏🏻 Thank you to our partners @Klitschko, Tatjana Kiel, WeAreAllUkrainians, and the Joint Center for Coordinating the Search and Release—together, we are bringing children home.
Thanks to Save Ukraine, over 1,800 children are already home.
This is the unfinished homework of 14-year-old Daniel Umansky.
On the morning of September 25, Daniel was sitting in his room in Kyiv, doing his homework.
He was writing about Volodymyr Monomakh, a ruler of Kyivan Rus, and his moral teachings written almost nine centuries ago. The assignment asked Daniel to think about how those principles might be understood today.
He wrote about respecting others, protecting the vulnerable, helping orphans, and other basic human principles.
Daniel never finished his home assignment.
At around 8 a.m., a Russian het drone struck his apartment building in the center of Kyiv.
Daniel was killed in his room. Among the wreckage of the family’s apartment, his school notebook remained open.
There is a terrible symbolism in what Daniel was writing at the moment his life was taken. A 14-year-old boy was trying to put into modern words a centuries-old principle: the strong must not be allowed to destroy the weak.
He never finished that thought. A Russian drone reached his room first. You can see the drops of blood on his school notebook.
Today, Daniel was laid to rest in Israel, where his grandparents live.
In September 2026 alone, there were 235 air alerts in Kyiv. Schools, hospitals, universities, infrastructure, and residential buildings were under deliberate Russian attacks. Hundreds of civilians were injured. Around thirty were killed. Danya was one of them. There should be responsibility. There should be just peace.
His mother was wounded in the same attack, and the family’s home was damaged.

Today, Ukraine honours everyone who protects its freedom, its people and its future. We also remember those whose lives were taken by russia’s genocidal war against Ukraine.
Defence takes many forms. It is a soldier who protects its family. A medic who runs toward the wounded. A rescuer who enters a destroyed building looking for survivors. A volunteer who brings medicine, food or a generator to people who have stayed in their homes. A teacher who continues teaching in a shelter during russian missile attacks. A mother or father who does everything possible to make a child feel safe. And it is every person who refuses to let Ukraine and its children to lose the right to have a future.
Today, we thank those who defend Ukraine.
And we remember those who gave their lives for it.

September 30 is Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Today, Canada remembers the Indigenous children who were taken from their families and communities, many of whom never returned home.
Today is a day to remember the harm caused by the residential school system and the lasting impact it continues to have on First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.
At DETY, this day makes us think about another generation of children separated from their families and communities.
Ukrainian children who have been taken from their homes because of russia’s war.
The histories are not the same. But the right of every child to grow up with their family, their culture, their language and a sense of home is universal.
Canada has chosen to remember, to learn from the past and to work toward reconciliation.
Every child matters.
Let’s not fail another generation of children.
Let’s unite our efforts to protect children, wherever they are in the world.

"Russia’s turning abducted Ukrainian children into Russian soldiers."
Reporter @KathrynDiss traveled to Ukraine for ABC’s Foreign Correspondent to expose this devastating reality. After years of indoctrination and militarization, kidnapped kids are being forced to sign contracts and fight against their own country.
Save Ukraine helped the journalist embed with our rescue missions and speak with youth who have just escaped occupation.
Thank you, Kathryn Diss, for bringing the global mission to bring Ukraine’s kids home to a wider audience.
📺 Watch the full report Tuesday, September 29, at on @abcnews and ABC iView. And you can also see it on YouTube.
Daniel Omansky will forever be 14 years old.
This is his notebook, with the homework he was doing when a russian drone struck his home in Kyiv. Daniel was at home, in his room, when on Septemer 25 the drone hit the residential building between the 10th and 11th floors. The boy was killed in the attack.
A 14-year-old was doing what millions of children around the world do every day: sitting at home, studying, thinking about school, and planning for tomorrow.
What if this boy had been French? Italian? Canadian?
Would the world be talking about him differently? Would millions of people know his name and mourn the life he never got to live?
Daniel was Israeli. Countless Ukrainian children killed by Russia never become known beyond their families, their communities, and the Ukrainian media.
Every child killed by Russia was a child who had homework to finish, friends to meet, dreams to discover, and a future that should have been theirs.

Last week, the Save Ukraine team rescued 30 children and teenagers from occupation. This was made possible thanks to the support of our partners within the framework of the President of Ukraine's Bring Kids Back UA initiative. Each of them endured psychological pressure, intimidation, and attempts to erase their identity, but the worst is finally behind them.
Among the rescued:
🔹 16-year-old Nastya, who, out of constant fear, barely left her own yard for years. The occupation police subjected her to brutal terror because she secretly attended a Ukrainian school online: security forces regularly showed up for inspections, fined her parents, and used threats to force her to get a Russian passport.
🔹 15-year-old Iryna, whose home was raided multiple times by armed soldiers who threatened to take her away from her parents forever if she didn't attend an occupation school. At the school, children were strictly forbidden from speaking their native language; they were yelled at and forced to sing the enemy's anthem.
🔹 17-year-old Roman, who was brutally interrogated by Russian soldiers and threatened with mutilation as they demanded information about the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The young man was forcibly registered for military service and began receiving draft notices as they prepared to mobilize him.
For these and 27 other children, the occupation is now in the past. Today, they are undergoing rehabilitation at our Hope and Healing Centers, receiving comprehensive psychological support, assistance with documents, and a cozy place to live so they can confidently start a new life.
Our fight continues, as thousands of Ukrainian children still remain hostages of an enemy system that is trying to weaponize them.
🙏🏻 Thank you to our partners @klitschko, Tatjana Kiel, #WeAreAllUkrainians, @humanitynk, and the Joint Center for Coordinating the Search and Release—together, we are bringing children home.

Emilia Ivanenko. 2023–2026.
Today, September 22, people in Chopovychi, Zhytomyr region, said their final goodbye to little Emilia. She was only three years old.
Emilia’s life was taken by a russian attack.
People came to say goodbye to this little girl and to support her family.
This tragedy would never have happened if Russia had not brought war to Ukraine.
Emilia should have been alive. She should have been playing, going to kindergarten, laughing, hugging her mother and father, growing up and building a beautiful future of her own.
But russia’s war took all of that away from her.
We ask you not to be silent about these tragedies. Remember every Ukrainian child whose life has been taken by russia.
Rest in peace, little Emilia.

Émilie Ivanenko. 2023–2026.
