This is totally a personal thing, but I'm slightly disappointed that One Piece is following the success of Kimetsu no Yaiba by having movies adapt material already previously shown in the manga. I know it's the successful formula recently and it's what sells, but I've always enjoyed that OP films tried to do their own thing.

I also know a lot of people were frustrated with films being non-canon and only having minor canon reveals along the way while everything else didn't realistically matter to the story, so this makes sense. But to me it was always fascinating to see new settings, new characters, and never really knowing where the movie was gonna go. Even if non-canon, that aspect of unknown was always magical and made each movie a treat, even when the execution failed!

While I'm sure Film God Valley will be insane for anime only viewers (as the Kimetsu films were for me), knowing absolutely everything that will happen in the film's plot beforehand I think makes me feel a bit less hyped for it, as I feel I''ll mostly be there for the sakuga aspect (which no doubt will be insane and I'm really excited for still). Had this movie released before the flashback did in the manga that'd be a different story, but I totally understand why that's not very viable for them to do.

Don't get me wrong though! I do really enjoy watching anime in cinemas even when I know the story beforehand, as I think those emotions still really hit (it definitely beats watching it on your laptop). But I'm just saying I personally prefer it when I don't know where the story will go either. I'm sure this probably varies a lot depending on your own personal tolerance of spoilers, but I've always been someone who prefers to not be spoiled, while I know other people instead really don't mind being spoiled beforehand.

Now, I assume by the title that One Piece Film BAAD might try to be in line with the old OP Films to appease both kinds of fans (unless it's trying to adapt the next arc in the manga or whatever, who knows), so that's cool! But the 2029 date will make the 7 year wait between Film RED all the more long 😭

Eitherway, as always you know I will book a flight to be there on launch night no matter what! But what do you think? Do you prefer an adaptation of previous content or do you like me also value haivng a new story? Let me know!
