Over 10,000 kg of Chemically Ripened Bananas Seized and Destroyed in Udupi Raids

​Udupi, Karnataka

In a major crackdown against food adulteration, officials from the #FoodSafety and Standards Authority and the #Revenue Department carried out surprise raids on Thursday, seizing and destroying nearly 11 tonnes of chemically ripened #bananas across #Udupi.

​Acting on credible intelligence,the officials targeted banana ripening units and storage facilities located in Alevoor, Kemthoor and Duglipadavu villages. During the inspections, officials discovered that traders were using hazardous chemicals to artificially accelerate the ripening process of raw bananas.

​The entire contaminated stock,totaling 10,890 kg with an estimated market value of ₹8,71,200, was confiscated on the spot and subsequently transported to the designated municipal dumping yard, where it was destroyed in accordance with safety protocols.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner and Food Safety Designated Officer Smt. Rashmi, along with Udupi Tahsildar Gururaj, Food Safety Officer Vivek Trimalle, accompanied by revenue department staff.

Karnataka: KSRTC has announced three new services. A Flybus from Kempegowda International Airport to Kozhikode via Mysuru, Gonikoppa, Mananthawadi and Kalpetta will begin on August 15, with fares up to Rs 1,500.

A weekend Bengaluru-Jog Falls package tour starts August 8 using a non-AC sleeper bus, covering transport, entry fee and meals, priced at Rs 3,300 for adults and Rs 3,000 for children.

KSRTC will also launch a non-AC sleeper service from Madiwala to Kannur via Mysuru and Thalassery from August 7, with fares up to Rs 850.
