@SHEKARSUSHEEL Recently I sang this song in a gathering... My top favourite Waheeda ji and the song. Another most favourite is सपने सुहाने लड़कपन के
मेरे नैनों में डोले बाहर बन के

[Shekar Iyer @SHEKARSUSHEEL]

In my Top 5 greatest songs .
“Raat Bhi Hai Kuch Bheegi Bheegi” — Mujhe Jeene Do (1963) is a song of haunting beauty, where poetry, melody and dance come together to create an unforgettable cinematic moment.
Sung by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, composed by Jaidev, and penned by Sahir Ludhianvi, it features the exquisite Waheeda Rehman, with Sunil Dutt also present in the sequence.
What makes this song so special is its intoxicating atmosphere of a moonlit night, unspoken longing and tender romance.
Sahir's poetry paints a picture of a damp, dreamy night and a subdued moon, while the delicate imagery of the sleeping anklet waiting to awaken adds a magical touch.
Jaidev's composition is understated yet deeply evocative.
There is an exquisite flow to the melody, and the gentle rhythmic pattern gives the song an almost hypnotic quality.
Lata Mangeshkar's singing is a masterpiece of restraint and expression. Her voice glides effortlessly through the melody, conveying tenderness, mystery and a quiet emotional intensity.
The repeated “chham-chham” is particularly enchanting, almost recreating the sound of Waheeda Rehman's anklets through her voice.
And then there is Waheeda Rehman! Her graceful movements, expressive eyes and effortless elegance elevate the song beyond an ordinary mujra sequence. She brings a rare combination of dignity, sensuality and vulnerability to the performance.
The real magic lies in the coming together of Sahir's evocative poetry, Jaidev's soulful music, Lata's silken voice and Waheeda's mesmerising screen presence. It is a song that doesn't merely describe a romantic night; it makes us feel its stillness, its mystery and its unspoken emotions.
A timeless gem that lingers in the heart long after the music fades ❤️

Remembering Sahir ludhianvi on his death anniversary 🙏
A poet whose words gave voice to love, longing, heartbreak, and the harsh realities of life. Through his timeless poetry and unforgettable songs, Sahir touched countless hearts and questioned the injustices of society.
His pen was his strength, his poetry his identity, and his words his immortality. Though he left us decades ago, his thoughts and verses continue to resonate with every generation.
Some poets write for their time; Sahir wrote for all time.
Forever remembered, forever cherished. 🌹
