@Adam_Mares@HowToCoachGirls I may be naive regarding USA youth sports but if funded by tax dollars … couldn’t the sport governing bodies limit practices & games? The ADM models ?
Then if the youth sports teams practice/play over do not provide insurance.
i.e. schools cannot make kids go on Saturdays
Usually if an adult played sports at some level they think they know how youth-adolescents should be developed.
If they were successful as a pro that gives them greater confidence that they are experts whether that translates into poor behaviour or a more chill approach.
For more context- here’s the ages of this year’s NCAA Men’s D1 2025-26 freshman class.
2004: 261 players - Age 21 2005: 148 players - Age 20 2006: 63 players - Age 19 2007: 34 players - Age 18 2008: 3 players - Age 17
(2003 and older: 14 players)
@Joe_Eisenmann Sportpreneurs plan what they think is best for adolescents? And it’s accepted.
Does anyone ask teens what is impt in addition to sport?
Rites of passage are you removing for them? Formals? Proms? Assemblies?
Ask teachers who specialize in adolescent social & emotional devpt?
@ThePerformanc16 Absolutely not a sport scientist.
What I think is that there’s a difference between
1) academics that research/publish as a career 2) academics that do/did research/publish & work within sport 3) people that use their research to better inform their practice within the sport.
@ThePerformanc16 As well as working with & writing programs & curriculum for various Jr leagues, NHL teams, & Agencies.
A little niche.
Academics I work with are quite supportive that their research is being used to better inform practices as they are not the ones working with athletes & orgs.
So happy for my son Ty, his teammates, and the whole organization!
What a fantastic way to end the season!
Winning league Championships is no easy task and it takes way “more” than people realize.
Extremely proud of this team, staff, and entire organization including billets, families, and more.
There’s many moving parts to have a championship year.
In the 4 years I’ve been with them there’s been a gradual build up to this moment.
👏🏻
Super excited to have received an advanced copy of Professor Malina new edition of 'Growth, Maturation, Physical Activity and Sport. Some great new and updated content. Recommended reading for anyone studying or working with young athletes 👏🏃♀️🏃♂️
Last week I lectured on Training during the Adolescent Growth Spurt in Amsterdam. An attendee asked me - "so there must be a lot of this (assessment of G&M, biobanding, etc.) going on in the U.S. Can you speak to share some of it."
My response: Unfortunately, very little if any.

New study on Dutch academies: Career patterns within men’s and women’s soccer talent systems: the typical pathway to the top is atypical https://t.co/U4CkNJfRxC
@ThePerformanc16 Agreed. Genuine late bloomers… that a lot of factors played into it.
Being a late bloomer guarantees planning an atypical path to “maybe” develop to a D1 to pro.
A typical goal of many late bloomers in AAA.
Not easy to articulate in a short post.
