EU Grants Zimbabwe Duty-Free Access, Strengthens Trade and Investment.
The European Union has opened its market to all Zimbabwean products duty-free, EU Ambassador Jobst Von Kirchmann announced at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF). This move comes as global trade tensions rise, offering Zimbabwean companies a major export opportunity, especially in horticulture, where the EU already buys over 40% of Zimbabweโs produce.
The EU is Zimbabweโs fourth-largest trading partner with over โฌ700 million in annual trade, and European FDI into Zimbabwe has tripled in recent years. The EU is also investing โฌ500 million into sustainable agriculture and womenโs empowerment. To support local businesses, a โฌ60 million loan facility has been launched via the European Investment Bank.
Ambassador Von Kirchmann urged greater awareness among companies to take advantage of the duty-free access. The EU-Zimbabwe Business Forum will be held May 20โ22 in Harare, focusing on agriculture, renewable energy, and mining beneficiation.
